SUMMER SWARM: Sunday; 6/25/17
The crew met at the Clinton Station Diner for breakfast and, as always, some good conversation. A couple of new faces joined us that morning; renyhr and his Dad(who may join us if the Shadow will start for the next ride). When we were finished with the morning meal, we headed up the street to pick up one more rider who was waiting at the Pilot Station. Getting a feel for our gasoline requirements for the day, we took some back roads just to warm up the rubber and then refuel in Belvidere.
The band of five crossed the Delaware River and headed for the "Carousel" that connects Riverton and Pa 611. A quick loop up & around Lake Minsi, down through Totts Gap, and then over the Million Dollar Highway brought us back to Pa 611. We then negotiated the Carousel in reverse. Once again, back over the river and then up thorugh the twisties of CR 609 to the town of Hope. We stopped to refuel at US Gas who apparently has now established a credit card minimum.
There was a lot of fresh macadam between Hope and Hainesville where we stopped for a short respite and some nourishment. Pushing on via CR 521, the group refueled once again in Port Jervis, NY and then a quick run through the Hawks Nest. We decided on some sweeper training on CR 31 & 32 to Eldred, NY and then down to Barryville(like we did not get enough of it on the Deckertown Turnpike through Stokes and High Point State Park). We crossed the Delaware River once again at the Roebling Viaduct and ran Pa 590/434 to US 6.
A quick drop off at Pa 739 led us to Log Tavern Road which is a treat for about 6 miles whose turns got more technical as we joined Milford Road. A short dash through the town of Milford, Pa brought us to change course once again and head back to the Garden State via Rt 206. By now the troops were getting hungry for "dunch", so one more fuel stop and then some back roads over to Pub 517 in Green Township. If you like lobster and crab, this is the place to dine.
With a full belly, we headed to the Shell Station down the strip to refuel one more time and decide how to split up and plot a course for home. nathanktm took a his route back to Long Island with renyhr and rwb79 heading down through Hackettstown and zaq123 and I taking some shortcuts over to Route 31 in New Hampton.
I clocked about 245 miles for the day and was a little bushed. Thanks to all who came out and a warm welcome to renyhr.
