Spring Shakedown Swarm 4/14/13
This ride went off as scheduled and with no interference from Mother Nature. The forecast was defined by partly sunny and 61 degrees with a gusty wind of 10-20mph from the west. The "Breakfast Club" met at the Clinton Station Diner down the boulevard for some vittles and conversation prior to the ride. Pork roll seemed to be the most popular side order of the morning meal in addition to our full breakfast.
The five of us departed the restaurant and headed up to join the other two at the Pilot Station. In total, we had six riders and one pillion(Sckill had invited his fiance' for the first outing of the season). After breaking up into 2 groups, the crew departed in mass and headed for some twisty roads up in Warren County and then we eventually crossed the Delaware River at Belvidere. River road happens to be one of our favorites before linking with PA 611. The two squadrons got separated a number of times, but re-grouped at Besecker's Diner above Stroudsburg and then again at the General Store in Canadensis on PA 390. It was a wee bit cool along the river On PA 447 registering at 43 degrees on my dash.
A nice little respite was enjoyed by all as the "Magnificent Seven" talked shop and kicked tires for 20 minutes. All together, there were four 919's and two ST's (BMW & Honda) ready for the assault on the "Promised Land". This portion of PA 390 provides some great riding and is just perfect for getting your head back in the game on a shakedown ride. A quick sprint on Interstate 84 dropped us off at PA 739 where we ran into a small caravan of pokey cagers. The road was a little tight to attempt a passing maneuver, so we waited patiently for Log Tavern Road to come up on the radar. Most of the cars continued on down Pa 739 and we made a left to shred some asphalt and carve some curves.
Milford Road dropped us off downtown and we crossed the bridge into the Garden State via US 206. CR 653 brought us to base of High Point and down into Port Jervis for "dunch". Arlene and Tom's is one of the local eateries where you can sit down into a home cooked meal atmosphere and enjoy the specials or whatever strikes your fancy off the menu. The signature dish is the "Meaney Burger" which by all appearances would make a Cardiologist shake his head in disappointment at your choice of sustenance.
After the meal and a refueling of the scoots, JohnB headed over High Point to pursue SR 23, Sckill and his lady departed at Interstate 80 and on to Queens, and the remaining four found there way down to SR 31 and then points south to their respective nests. It was a great day in the saddle thanks to all for coming out and to tjconc for taking the point up and back.
