Nice Sunny Day to Play in Texas

Str8 and I met up this morning for some fun and slightly more adventure then we bargained for. I was there on my Speed Triple and Str8 had his 919. We met at about 8:45 Sunday morning and proceeded to do the “I don’t know, what roads did you want to ride?”

Several months ago, before the floods hit central Texas, I had an enjoyable ride on a couple of roads close to Austin, Tx with the Triumph RAT pack. One in particular that stuck out was Cow Creek Rd. We finally decided to try that road out. I plugged it in the GPS to see where it was in relation to where we were, and as luck would have it, it was fairly close and we could ride it and get back to our houses by around 1:00 – 2:00 in the afternoon (was supposed to be mid 90 by 2:00).

I have attached a map and several pictures I snapped during the ride. I know Str8 has some pics he will be posting as well. When we got to Cow Creek Rd, it had been pretty beat up during the floods in Marble Falls. There were sections that had completely washed out and other were pot hole haven.

There was one spot where the bridge was almost finished being rebuilt after being washed out and we went around the road closed signs to stay out of the water. There was one other place where we had no such luck. We didn’t realize we needed adventure bikes. There we were, running through the creek having the bikes’ rear ends do the cha-cha with the rocks under us.

Great ride, however, great weather (although a little warm towards the end) and wonderful company. Hopefully we can do it again soon, before he heads over the pond. Anyone else in Central Texas up for a ride?

This is the first time I have tried posting pics, so bear with me if they are not quite right.

Map of the route we took.

Pulled off on the side of Cow Creek Road before getting to the "good stuff". We had already done some twisties on on sections that were in pretty good shape. We had also played in some gravel and sand covered parts of the road that the water had covered.

Same spot with Cow Creek in the background

Picture of Cow Creek running...

Maybe we should have had offroad tires...

Playing in the water...

We stopped at Chili's for lunch (saw the sign with the pepper, didn't know if Pablo was there). Sat out on the patio, these are the pics from the table.

The two of us at the table (me on the left, Str8 on the right).

Picture of the bike pulled off at a "scenic area". Thought it was cool to have the bikes with the cacti in the background. Gotta have some Cactus shots in Texas.

Scgstuff, man it was great trip bro and I have made a new friend from WT. You didnt tell me I needed the trail bike tires though, lol all and all it was lots of fun. Next time you get to bounce over the rocks and water first!! I did get to try the Speed Triple for a few miles and I can say its super smooth and very quiet compared to my ride . I hope to get a few more on her to give a good comparision. Great company as well , just my speed , we wernt setting land speed records but just having a good time .
Same map

little Gps mapping by my new friend

These trees were under water, our road was maybe 10 feet under water

You cant tell but the rocks under our tires were the size of baseballs, I was lucky enough to go first , stalled three times trying not to bounce the rear wheel

Great ride report, and awesome pics. It just goes to show that you don't always need adventure bikes to have an off-road adventure. Congrats guys.

I was thinking the same thing James. A little off road ride can be fun.

Thanks for sharing.

Water wasn't too bad. It was the rocks before entering the water that were the worst. The bike was dancing with the rocks under me. The first water crossing, we went around the road closed signs and took the bridge they were rebuilding instead of through the water. That water was much deeper.
