Ghost Town - Lacoochee, FL

Rolled out from the meet point about 08:45 after meeting up with good friends 1000RRHooligan (el Doctoro, it's good to ride with a Dr.) and Cil (he's on the R1)

Here's downtown Lacoochee - the hustle and bustle are overwhelming.

Dr. Hooligan steps up the local tavern and orders a nice cold water with a water chaser. Settle down, we don't need no fightin' round these parts.

Here's a glimpse inside the top building. It's an eBayer's delight!!!

The calendar on the wall is frozen at February 1999.
Lots of ghostly business is done here. I wanted to sip from the mug but Dr. Hooligan said no. Party pooper.

After the railcars quit coming so did them city fellers.
"Just a half a mile from the railroad tracks"...
finish that lyric and you win the bonus round

See, I DO ride the BMW in the dirt too.

Dr. Hooligan is overcome by the prospect of living in Lacoochee.

mmmmm, strawberry frosted!

Just in case you doubted.

These devil hounds were obviously placed by a ghoul for daytime protection.

"you wanna drank?"

Of course Florida has curvey roads.

"Naughty bikers go here."

I did find the reason so many motoGP riders have front end problems. Can you read the GPS? It says "Istachatta"

Live long and prosper.

What would a ride through Florida be without getting stuck behind a gray hair in a Lincoln Town Car?

All in all - downtown Lacoochee was some 4 buildings that were abandoned in the late 90's. Nobody appears to have any interest in the piles of records and paper in one of the buildings. The area was not unpopulated though, only these few buildings. Plenty of mudslinging jacked up 1970-75 open exhaust rusted out pickemup trucks with "Git R Dun" stickers and moose testicles hanging from the tow hitch were running around. But we saw no humans other than 2 young ladies of the evening working the day. They seemed frightened by our presence and made no attempt to communicate with the strangers on those odd round legged horses.

We figure you could probably purchase Lacoochee for about $12.00 and get some change back. Sadly we felt the presence of no spirits so we must press on another day to another town and adventure. Not a bad start to this little quest, but not exactly what we were hoping for either.

Looks like fun. Wish I could have joined you. Unfortunately I'm stuck at work, and the bike is not exactly street legal right now!

I did find myself in the unexpected position of riding the 1000RR for a while this morning. As sportbikes go it was actually very comfortable. It has fewer than 1000 miles so I didn't really get on it hard but it's more stable and buffets less at 140mph than the BMW does at 80mph. cough, ahem - I didn't just write that. The power is prodigious and everywhere, never got it to redline and I'm still programmed to shift at 7500rpm but wow, I can see how (after dialing in everything to my liking) it'd be a serious beast. Thanks for the ride Hooligan!

Palm Beach County
No visit to Palm Beach would be complete without a ghastly tale to tell. Rumors and legends have it that Palm Beach County is host to the living dead in places such as The Blue Anchor British Pub and Restaurant in Delray Beach, The Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton and the Jupiter Lighthouse and Yesteryear Village's Riddle House in West Palm Beach. For information on these haunts call (561) 233-3000 or visit www.palmbeachfl.com.

*or even a shipwreck would be cool as well.

Ahhhhhhhh haaaaaaaa haaaaaaaa haaaaaaaa, that was great! Who ya gonna call? Ghost-Town Busters!

Next ride is to Trails End Camp. Can you say Dueling Banjos and Deliverance?

This is a great forum. It's not the ride, it's the destination.

Pop-Tarts for everyone, I'm buying.
