Any good rides within 3 hours of Charlotte?

Me and some buds, now that I have given them bike fever and have since gotten bikes, are wanting to do a good ride soon. I'm semi familiar with the Troy NC area since I do a bit of wheeling in the Uwharrie forrest, it's only about an hour and half away. We are lookin to get some elevation and of course some good twisties. Another option I suggested to them was ride to Asheville on a sat, get a hotel and hit up the parkway sunday. They both ride sportbikes so I know I'm going to hear a constant bitching about their backs and legs hurting the further distance we go. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

the tail of the dragon is only 4 hours away... hell I'd be happy riding to the other side of the cherohala skyway (143) and heading back...then again the charohala is one of my favorite rides in that area. Unfortunately I haven't been much further east than Chullowee.

if you love your motorcycle, set it free.. if it comes back and hits you.. you highsided

Here are 2 of my favorites:

Galax-Mountain City-BRP - Google Maps

Floyd Loop - Google Maps

The NC, VA and TN mountains are chock full of great rides. The Dragon is great, but this time of year the traffic, squids, and police are a'plenty. There are other roads nearby that are pretty close to being as much fun.

I saw 0 enforcement on 143, YMMV.

Just rode the Blue Ridge Parkway last weekend. I saw 1 police officer in the 350+ mile we rode.
