Women drivers....

ok before everyone starts blaming me of misogyny, I do have to rant a bit...

I'm REALLY glad my wife is ok...

BUT SHE TOTALED THE 599 LAST NIGHT!!!

She is fine - good old road rash on her knee, but she had all her gear on, which saved her bacon.

Two merging roads, gravel and then sand merging over from the crossover road into the main road right at a turn, and it was late at night.

I think she panicked and target fixated while slamming on the brakes. Lost the front instantly and it hit hard on the left side.

Going to go pick it up sometime tonight, I'll be sure to get some pics and maybe a video.

She's been in bed all day (I warned her how sore she'd be) but otherwise is fine. She really wasn't even that shook up, I was very proud of her! She's really sad about Wanda though!!!

I'll have to see how bad the damage is - it looked pretty bad in the headlights, but maybe there is enough left to fix. Not sure yet.

Man that sucks about the 599, but glad your wife wasn't hurt too bad.

Probably the worst thing about riding this time of year is all the crap on the roads. Hope Mrs. G00g heals up quick.

Glad your wife is Ok. Hope she heals fast so she can get back in the saddle ASAP. Man you learn some tough lessons when your a newbie. As much as you can give a new rider lots of advice, at some stage they have to recall that info in an instant. Lorna my wife is learning and I'm more nervous than she is.

Still waiting on those pics

As far as the bike goes, sounds like its time to turn it into a street fighter! oh wait... never already is. lol

Pretty long list, but how many items on that list need to be replaced vs cleaned up, painted, or left alone as a war scar?

OEM honda bars, and turn signals should be easily sourced for free on here.
Main item looks to be the gauges/bracket .

Key? Did it break off?

Wife is scooting around almost to 100% now. She really hates to go look at her bike in the garage, however.

I did a quick parts pricecheck and WOW... For everyone that ever though Aprilia's were expensive they are CHEAP compared to this 599.

Just the gauges, tank, rear cowl alone add up to $1900. I'm really considering just letting the insurance total this one out and possibly part it out.

I have a $1000 deductible - how does it work if I file a claim and buy it back? I've never actually had to do this, lol... always fixed it myself before but this may be beyond feasible efforts.

Pics were up above? Maybe you missed them...

Key was bent almost completely flat by the gauges (key actually broke the gauges )

I was able to bend it mostly straight, enough to turn the key. Bike started after clearing some flooded fuel and runs just fine.

Wow props to her getting the bike upside down. I've seen some straight up totaled bikes that no longer look like motorcycles. Just piles of parts.... With good keys lol.

Important thing is that she is ok. A bike or car can be replaced, not worth getting upset about if you take it into perspective.

Glad she's alright. That had to have been a scary time for both of you. One positive to come out of events like these is that they serve to put things in perspective. Also, you'll have either a) a new project or b) a new bike!

She had a Scorpion textile jacket on, some cheap helmet (she bought it on looks, I tried to convince her otherwise) and some riding shoes (but not riding boots).

She doesn't have riding pants, hence the injury, but she had sweatpants on underneath jeans, and I think that helped a bit. Not as good as real riding pants, but still helped. Just more proof that jeans are NOT protection, nothing close to it.

Heck, her riding jacket took the brunt of it, and I can't find a scratch on it (after we washed the dirt out of it). Helmet never even touched the ground that I can tell.

Here are some pics of the offending corner. You can clearly see the dirt on the right side, but what is harder to see at night is the sand right before it. I'm pretty sure she didn't see that and that is what she initiated her turn in.
