Texting while riding.

Don't do it. The cagers do enough of that as it is. I might be tempted to punch the next chode texting on their bike right in the throat. He was holding up traffic, too. Douchebag...

ETA: Safety gear consisted of NC required helmet, T-shirt, tennis shoes, shorts and an Otterbox for his phone (gotta protect the important stuff ).

Saw the title, was going to ask "How the hell can you text wearing riding gloves?" but I see now.

A few years ago in Dallas I saw an idiot in the same full face helmet, shorts & t-shirt with the throttle of his gixxer locked at 70 on the HOV, sitting upright with his sneaker clad feet on the passenger pegs READING A PAPERBACK BOOK!

What pisses me off is that to the disinterested cager, you and I and those idiots are all the same. Every time somebody does something stupid on a motorcycle it's a reflection on the rest of us.

I saw a guy on a sport bike a few years ago near DC riding in heavy traffic, sitting on the bike backwards (facing the rear of the bike), left hand on the throttle, right hand on the clutch side. He wasn't just cruising along, but weaving in and out of traffic. What pissed me off was he could ride better backwards than I can forwards.

I think this is just pure stupidity.

Probably rides better than me texting while standing. =(

I see a guy around my area riding a full on [ridiculous monkey bars and all] black chopper. he's never wearing protection other then half a helmet, always in black denim cut off vest, just for men black goatee, and tons of chains hanging from his wallet[?].
He rides around with his ARMS CROSSED around the main streets.
Without a doubt the most badass guy in this city.

Maybe we should have a stupid rider thread where we post pictures, videos and firsthand accounts of the dumb shit some riders do.

I've seen a couple guys in Dallas doing that over the past couple years. Usually I am driving my truck doing some work stuff. It both amazes me and makes me worry about the image it portrays for the rest of us who just focus on the cagers and other crap that are out to kill us. It's just a shame....

Some people can multitask, some can not, simple as that.

Kind of like "concealed carry" - you can't tell when someone who can multitask is texting (or whatever) while driving.

Punish everyone, that seems to be the new American way.....

Actually, no one can really multi-task, some are just better at switching quickly between active tasks, and others not.

The main reason texting is so bad is it REQUIRES you to remove your eyes from the road. Big no no.

We have employees here on the floor that do manual process transactions on a computer, yet they insist they can watch Netflix on their tablet while working. Um, please explain how that is possible when you are supposed to have your eyes on the SCREEN????

I honk my bloody screaming Stebel at every texter and makeup artist that I come across. I don't care, if it prevents them killing someone (possibly me) it's worth the road rage.

MM, that video was COOOOL, please everyone share that on FriendFace.

That's funny

I've had more than a few positions within companies that require the ability to juggle many balls at the same time.

For example, taking on the phone with one customer while processing an order for another "face to face" while entering information into a computer system at the same time.

And that's a simple example.

More than a few people would quit after the first few days, some just can not do it, and that's OK -

As long as they don't expect to make the same $$$ as those of us that can!

Anyway, I don't mean to argue with you about it, I'm sure you know more about anything and everything than I do, and look better doing it, and that you can tell the difference between your suspension settings too boot!

The week before last, I was driving to the airport and I had a text come in. I read it, and the passenger freaked out big time.

Look, we were on a long straight, divided highway, no traffic within site, nothing to be concerned with, I'm going to glance at my message while doing the normal look up to the right, straight ahead, left and behind - then back to the message.....

Some people never will get it, never will, I try and avoid "that type", best for everyone involved.

I don't think riding a motorcycle and texting belong together. Heck, half the time I watch this video bloggers they can barely concentrate on what they are saying while they are riding. If you can't talk and ride, then how in the world can you type???? I'm just now getting on board with music and riding, but I am still a little apprehensive just due to my worry of what I am not going to hear going on around me. I've had 2 occasions where hearing something happening behind me allowed me to GTFO and prevent myself from being clipped from behind.... Just my 2 cents though.

Multi-tasking is not the point- no soccer mom is going to blindly drive into your cubicle we you are merging excel spreadsheet across 5 monitors.

There are some inherent laws of physics that must be commanded nearly instantly and with utmost decisiveness whIle riding.

Anyone that thinks it is necessary to text AND ride is not someone I would care to ride with.

As I said, some people can multitask, some can not.

Distort it all you want, some people don't want to accept the facts, others do, some make them up, and some really don't care......

I'm sick and tired of new laws for stupid people. We already have enough laws on the books, just enforce the ones we have.....

And sitting at a desk with a bunch of monitors borders on multi-tasking, toss in a couple dozen phone lines, multiple personal contacts with real humans, dozens of deadlines and the hell of dealing with people who have "educated mentalities, no real world experience", well, you get -

A smile, thanks, anything else I can do for you?

BTW, I hope that's a #12

Ummmmmm

Computers multitask. Humans, not so much. It is a trick of focus of attention. Something get more attention while something else gets less. It's a slippery slope.

We can walk & breathe (& maybe, chew gum).

I think it is hilarious that anyone wants to argue about if people can multitask or not.

Bordering on pathetic, as one persons definition of multitasking may not be the exactly the same as another.

I used to manage 26 distribution centers each with multiple departments, if you could not multitask, you were either incompetent, lazy, required additional training or were about to be shown the door.

"I did not have enough time" was never a excuse I accepted, and looking back, well, I only expected from others what I was delivering -

And that was more than most could handle.......

It is what it is, and once again, I'm right and your left in the dust.

A 17-year-old was texting and driving when he crossed the center line and crashed into a sheriff's deputy head-on, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The teen was driving a 1996 Honda Civic westbound on Highway 39 in McMinn County Wednesday morning around 7 a.m. The teen crossed the center line while texting and crashed into Deputy Randy Gabrel's cruiser. Gabrel had slowed to almost a complete stop in an attempt to avoid the crash.

The head-on collision pushed the cruiser backward approximately seven to 10 feet.

According to the McMinn County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Gabrel suffered some broken ribs and a sprained ankle in the crash.

The teen was also taken to the hospital. No word at this time on his injuries.

The teen faces charges of due care and texting while driving.
Texting teen crashes head-on into deputy's cruiser

Obviously another one of those people who can't multitask.....
