RIP Atti 08/01/13
I left my native country, Romania, to come to the US about 7 years ago. I haven't talked to Atti since. I was happy to see him in Facebook posts at rider meet-ups, celebrations and other happy events.
Fast forward to 2013: Atti is a motorcycle instructor at a local driving school and a well acclaimed rider. He married his girlfriend last year and he had recently become a father. On this "cursed" day of Thursday, August 1st he decides to go for a ride with several other guys. The twisties are just 30 miles away... Good tarmac, great weather, not much traffic. They make it to the other side and then head back... before a left hander he may have twisted the throttle too much when climbing and he loses the front, hitting the railing on the right, never to get up again... He was 35.
His baby is 6 weeks old now and will never get to remember how it is to be held by her father.
Atti paid the ultimate price to teach us a lesson. I hope at least I've learned something: No matter how burning your passion is, moderation is the key in order to enjoy what you're doing for a long time!
Rest in Peace, Attila Lorincz!
