RIP Atti 08/01/13

I left my native country, Romania, to come to the US about 7 years ago. I haven't talked to Atti since. I was happy to see him in Facebook posts at rider meet-ups, celebrations and other happy events.

Fast forward to 2013: Atti is a motorcycle instructor at a local driving school and a well acclaimed rider. He married his girlfriend last year and he had recently become a father. On this "cursed" day of Thursday, August 1st he decides to go for a ride with several other guys. The twisties are just 30 miles away... Good tarmac, great weather, not much traffic. They make it to the other side and then head back... before a left hander he may have twisted the throttle too much when climbing and he loses the front, hitting the railing on the right, never to get up again... He was 35.

His baby is 6 weeks old now and will never get to remember how it is to be held by her father.

Atti paid the ultimate price to teach us a lesson. I hope at least I've learned something: No matter how burning your passion is, moderation is the key in order to enjoy what you're doing for a long time!

Rest in Peace, Attila Lorincz!

Sorry to hear this - very sad news.

Reminds me to be careful out there - hits home, because I have a daughter to live for, too.

Very sad. Sorry for your loss and especially sorry for his young family.

I have two young children and they are one of the reasons I quit riding and sold everything last year. Now I'm back in the saddle and this is a good reminder not to let my need for speed get the better of me. Be safe.

Hello Bigdaa,

The bikers in my home-town organized donation boxes in a few places. Keep in mind that this is in Romania and unfortunately it is far away. I could, however, organize something here in the US and have my parents bring them the funds like they did with my donation or better yet, I'll open up a paypal for the his wife and have people donating that way if anyone is kind enough. I'll let everyone at home settle down a bit and I'll start making inquiries about bank accounts and what needs to be done.

His funeral was today, atended by hundreds. I shall have a video link later on today or tomorrow.

There is a RAW VIDEO link about the accident but it is difficult to watch. It is EMS personnel trying to revive him - local media was on site minutes after it happened.

Here's the local news: TRAGEDIE IN TRAFIC - Un motociclist in varsta de 35 de ani, mort intr-un grav accident produs pe Mesteacan (VIDEO - IMAGINI SOCANTE)-

DO NOT CLICK on the "Vezi VIDEO - imagini socante" - CAUTION, RAW VIDEO

I will keep anyone posted on the unfortunate event. Thank you all for your support and ideas!

With gratitude,

Radu

I could not watch the video no matter what.

What I could do is send you a little bit of something and trust you to deliver it accordingly. I can't afford much but I know every little bitwould help.

Perhaps you can PM me your name and address and I will send you a check payable to you and you can direct the funds, OK?

Send it with regards from American Riders.

Bigdaa, Andrewbay,

I sent you my address via PM. I only use my Paypal to pay for stuff, I don't know how to receive money - I guess I would have to look into that.

Thank you all for your support! Being part of the Wrist Twisters community means even more now!

Regards,

Truly sorry to hear about this, but I am glad you shared it with this community. I think we can all relate as riders, family, and people. I often forget about my own mortality, living in a way to honor it, but remembering to appreciate what we love when we find others have experienced loss is a constant, giving lesson. Please let us know if something gets set up with paypal so we can give a little to show we care.

Update

Hello Everyone,

Two weeks have passed since my friend has left this world. Things have calmed down a bit and we sorted a few things out so the fallen rider's family can receive donations. My father will accept paypal donations and all the proceeds will be retrieved in local currency and handed to Emese, Atti's widow. I will start a separate thread for this.

Thank you all for the kind words and especially Bigdaa for your contribution and support.

Radu
