Playing outside the rules...

...pays unfortunate dividends.

Penultimate paragraph is the kicker. Squids suck.

"What kind'a tires you runnin'?"

Makes you wonder if the car that struck the crowd was driven by an elderly person, Crown Victoria, no lights, plowing through a crowd, seems that we've heard that scenario before.

Wouldn`t matter if the driver of that Crown was elderly or not,if you have a large illegal gathering in the middle of a four lane highway right at the time of day where visibility is at its poorest and then you throw in a smoke screen caused by your illegal activity , you should expect something bad to happen to yourself. I would say that the Murphyonic field would be pretty strong around an event like this. makes me think of that movie Deathrace 2000.

Whenever I come upon thick fog/blowing snow/smoke and my visibility is reduced I slow down so as not to overdrive how far I can see. If this smoke was SO thick, wouldn't one think there is a car on fire in the middle of the road and maybe I should stop? instead of blowing through it and assuming nothings there.

A crowd standing in the middle of the highway is stupid, but I think the driver deserves part of the blame. Chances are a competent driver wouldn't have hit anyone.

+1, Granted folks playing in a road are stupid. But it's always the Driver's responsibility to NEVER exceed a save speed for the conditions and vision. The victims' lawyers will bankrupt the Murderer's estate.

Looking at the accident map it seems fairly obvious what happened. The crown vic came upon stopped cars in the middle of the road first reaction was to swerve which they did into people who were observing an illegal race at around 3am in the morning on a 4 lane highway.Ya I agree that most of us probably could have avoided the situation we all ride bikes so we probably have better refexes and judgement, Its a deadly mistake to assume that everyone out there has superhero reflexes and judgement though. These people paid for their arrogance with their lives end of story.

He had no lights on at 330am? He swerved just as he was getting to the crowd? Sounds like he might have been complaining about the activities for a while, then took matters into his own hands... Sure illegal street racing is illegal. Hence the name. Yeah, it's dumb to stand next to a highway, but at 330 with limited traffic ON the ROAD, standing next to it probably isn't that worrisome. Driver is to blame.

No lights is the key, what was the driver doing with no lights at 3:30am? Drunk perhaps?

Fixed... Stupid hurts, and sometimes even kills.
