Another 9'er Down

I laid her down still within site of my work.
In the industrial park there is a mail drop box on the side of the road where people pull off the oncoming lane to drop their mail into the box without getting out of the car.
Well there was a car stopped there as I was approaching and sure enough he pulled back acrossed right in front of me. I grabbed a handfull and footfull of brake, the bike skidded sideways and I highsided it slamming down on the asphalt. My gear did it's job saving me from any serious injury. I wasn't wearing gloves however, so my hands got scraped up pretty good but other than that, a few bumps and a nice sized goose egg just below my elbow I'm all right.
The bike is going to need a new tank again, clutch cover, front turn signal, bar end, brake lever, mirror, windscreen, and throttle cables.
The guy that cut me off stopped and helpped me we took the bike back to my work where he helpped me clean up my wounds and waited for the police to come and make a report.
As it turns out I knew his wife and the cop that did the report small town and all. Anyway he has insurance so this won't end up costing me anything.
All in all I think I came out of it lucky. Any crash you can ride away from... You know.
Lesson learned Allways wear ALL your gear even your gloves. My helmet really did it's job cuz there is a couple off deep scrapes in it and I didn't even have a headache.
It was weird cuz as I was crashing before my head even hit the ground thoughts passed through it "Damn it I'm crashing I hope my bike isn't getting to f#cked up." then I saw my tank bag fly off and thought "oh man my iPhone is in there" weird but I really wasn't worried about me just my stuff. I guess cuz the pain hadn't hit yet.

Wow, so glad you're all right! Too many wrecks this season, this forum has had more than it's share now, hopefully we've got them out of the way early.

Everyone that gets up and walks away with minimal injuries just reinforces ATGATT for the rest of us.

Glad your ok, Wraith....glad to hear the car guy was as good about it as he was, too.
Sorry to hear about your bike, though...best of luck putting it back together

Double focus when you get back on-it can be a little weird for a day or two.

As Sokali posted after I got rear-ended:

"Make sure there's no broken bones, get up, pick up bike, fix levers, make sure throttle is not sticking and BRAAAAAP...."

That sucks, but glad you weathered it pretty good. Thanks for the PSA!

I had a couple close calls similar to that. Now I slow and make sure moron cagers see and hear me (Modulating HL & Stebel AH). Granted most cagers these days can't manage their Activities Daily Living (ADL) and are deaf and blind.

Hope you return to the road soon!

Glad you are OK, and that the guy who caused the accident had enough decency to stop and help you out.

Glad you were ok and glad the guy helped you out. Things happen and sometimes people don't even stop to help or give two sheits! You'll get the bike back in working order again.

Glad your ok. weird the amount of thoughts that go through your mind in those few seconds. I know all I was worried about was keeping it up, wife, kids and how much was this going to cost? I bet i had more self conversations in those split seconds than I do in a normal day!

Anyway, really glad your OK.

Glad you're OK. good luck fixing the 9er. I was pretty shook up after my wreck (Oncoming left-turner totaled my buell 9R), and way nervous about being back on the road with cars that don't look out, but time wears that down, so hop back on and have some fun as soon as she's rideable!

Thanks everybody.
The bike is still fully functional, not as pretty as she was but everything works. The 919 is built pretty strong. I ended up riding it home. Didn't have any vibrations or strange noises. I'm looking forword to fixing her up with some fresh parts on dude's insurance's dime.

Glad you are alright. We are going to need to see pics of the bike and the gear you wore. Don't forget to get new gear on the insurance companies dime as well!
