AMA's Fuel the Fund

Those of you who are not members of AMA, may not be aware of this Fundraiser. It's been a long time since the last study. I think we should all do our part for our own sake as Motorcylists. In fact, you may want to consider even joining the AMA since it's an organization that represents and looks after us.

Fuel the Fund

Join the AMA in raising matching funds for a motorcycle crash study

Would you give up the cost of one tank of gas for your bike to help make motorcycling safer for all of us? For years to come?

The AMA is asking you to do just that. And the Association is doing its part, too — $100,000 worth.

The federal government has pledged up to $2.8 million to fund a comprehensive study of motorcycle crashes, something that hasn't been done in 25 years. But the funding calls for a 50 percent match from us. That means we need to raise $2.8 million of our own to take full advantage of the federal funding.

The AMA believes so strongly in this effort that we’ve committed $100,000 immediately to the project. We’re asking companies in the industry to pledge money as well, and it looks like they're coming through.

But we'd also like individual motorcyclists like you to get involved. Donate online or send your donation by mail to Fuel the Fund, c/o AMA, 13515 Yarmouth Drive, Pickerington, OH 43147.

One tank of gas is all we're asking. Help the AMA fuel the fund.

Nice post.

My belief is that anyone on two wheel should be an AMA card holder. It's peanuts per year.

Only 20 views on this thread? Maybe I should have given it a better title.

Bump in hopes more see this. I think it's important that we have another motorcycle accidents study. The last one by Harry Hurt, "Motorcycle Accidents: Cause Factors and Identification of Countermeasures" was from 1981. It was from that report that we first learned of the dangers of oncoming traffic turning left in front of motorcyclists; the need for a MSF Rider Course; how often cagers are blind to us just before a crash; and how the real-world benefits of safety gear were first quantified.

The AMA needs to raise funds for this Study, and they're not asking much.

Will they make them faster, cheaper, and with better exhausts and suspensions?

Ohhhhhh... probably not, but I'll donate anyway!

First time I saw this post. I'll have to dig deep in the wallet and give up some money. I would be very interested to see how this differs from the last study.
