Well today i parked my 919 at school and as im taking my jacket off, a cool looking clean old restored to pristine condition bike rolled up. Beautiful bike, looked like it came straight out of the early days of the motorcycle.
Then i started looking, hmm new style disk breaks, and is that a fuel injector?!?!?! royally confused at this point. the rider steps off and takes off the helmet.
It was a super cute girl, riding this curious bike. needless to say it through me for a loop.
Got to talking and it is made by a company "Royal Enfield" they have been making bikes in india for some time and just recently started allowing the importing of them here to the states! 500cc single cylinder, fuel injected, disk breaks, but awesome classic looks.
Cool bike, cute chick... made my day haha. (shoulda got a picture of her with the bike)
Cool bike, but I am thoroughly disappoint that no girl in photo

"Hey Baby, wanna swap rides?"
haha, i would have been more forward, but alas i am 1. quite shy, 2. i do have a gf at the moment... the ex and i broke up around this time last year, but got back together about 3 months back, so i am officially taken at the moment.
If she is around again, ill ask for a pic of her and her bike to prove to you guys.
And you would be surprised at how many girls ride various motorcycles out at my college ... hell the campus is literally 2/3rds female!!! makes for people watching vary nice.
Royal Enfield stopped production in England in 1970, but India continued making them. In 1978 the shop where I was working picked up the line for a short time, but reliability issues surfaced that scotched the whole thing. Not surprising as the pictures of the "factory" consisted entirely of dirt floors and lots of barely paid employees sitting on the floor hand filing parts -- rather elegantly explaining broken rocker arms and cams that ground themselves to dust within 1,000 miles. Looked cool in a retro sort of way, but we couldn't give them away.
I'm surpriseed they survived this long, but it would appear they made huge changes in equipment and manufacturing.
My only other experience with the marque was a head on collision on Glendora Ridge road with an Interceptor (yeah, RE had the name before Honda) where I spent the better part of a year getting nerve function back in my busted up left arm, and he died. Needless to say I'm not the biggest fan of them! They still look retro cool though.
If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

Royal Enfield, despite being made in India, are very nice little thumpers. Obviously not even in the same class as any modern Jap I4, but Id be pleased to own one... they used to be complete piles of crap, but they have made great strides of improvement over the last decade or so.
Check out the Fireball conversion, or the Musket... RE has lots of possibility, abd they look great!
Nd4spdh, you really ought to have got pics of the girl, man!
Well, fire the engines! Spur this iron space-pony on!
I've seen them 2 years ago at a local dealer. Cool bikes but you got to really love the oldschool look. They aren't cheap.
Yeah, same here. We have people bringing them in, new from the manufacturer, and retailing them for around $8k or $9k, at a time when the NC700 from Honda is gonna go for around $11k, locally. The Enfields are nice bikes, fer sure, but that's a big premium to pay for the nostalgia effect...
some guys on the cafe racer tv show bought one hoping to soup it up to get it to 100 mph. i can't remember what they had to do or if they made it to 100. i don't get that channel at my house and can't find it on the youtube.
