Hotmail account problem...

I have a question about my hotmail account. It's been a few weeks, I can't access my hotmail account from my computer anymore, only my phone. I've had this e-mail address for 15 years and I would like to keep it.

Phone hotmail tech support earlier, they told me they need my IP number so they can get in my computer and change settings! This would take over an hour I said no and hung up.

Whenever I try to use my email from my computer it's asking for my phone number so they can send me a code of some sort but it doesn't work.

Sometimes I wish I was a geek, I wouldn't have to deal with these problems.

Any idea what steps I should take to solve this problem?

Can you received text messages on your phone? usually they'll send you a 'code' that you enter to get back into your account and reset your password.

Hotmail gets hacked easy, so when you get back in, create a strong password, and change your backup questions and answers. And double check the phone # they have on file.

The issue with your computer - is it browser related? Which browser are you using?

Internet Exploder? Chrome? Firefox?

Usually clearing out the cache/cookies helps with stuck issues like this. Ccleaner is a great tool for this if you want to download it and try it.

Try running the registry portion as well, it might help.

If none of that helps, send me a PM. I do remote PC assistance for my side-work, I can give you a hand...

Don't forget to put his porn on the WT Dropbox so we can all benefit

Easiest test is try another computer to log in. If you don't have another computer handy, try installing another browser you haven't had before or don't use for e-mail. Then you can rule out if the problem is in the server or your browser/computer. That access to your computer with a phone number scheme is a trap, I've heard of people having their computers held ransom by some Indian people because they didn't want to pay when asked to...

I do have text messages on my phone. The "code" thing was used by my ex when she had problems with her account. She used our old house phone number which we don't have anymore. I can't replace the old number with my current phone number. If that makes any sense. The old number is locked in.

I'm using Firefox on a Mac...

Can you get in on another computer? If so delete your browser history/cookies. Hotmail has also added security features where if you log in using an out of area IP addresses it will lock the account unless you give them the access code. However the fact that your phone works fine tells me that's not the issue.

Try logging in on another computer and see what happens.
If using the email app on your phone to get email. You can just go to hotmail.com using your phone browser and log in by entering your username and password. If that works go and clear browser history on the computer.

I'm having a similar issue. I only use my phone and can't access hotmail at all. I haven't tried from a computer yet.

When you try to get email from your phone does it keep asking for your password?
If so, When you try to log in using hotmail.com it will say your account is disabled.

Either a weird ip logged in or someone tried logging in with the wrong password too many times. It will give you an option to send a code to your phone or whatever form of backup info you had. Another email addy maybe. If nothing was provided you will need to contact hotmail with your ip info so they can make sure you've had access before.

However the OPs problem to me sounds like a browser/cookie issue

Another easy test for OP try logging in using safari.

That's what it was doing. I tried with safari as well and it still wouldn't work. I got a reset code sent to my phone earlier and that didn't work either. Did it again and it seemed to work. Thanks.
