Hornet Turbo

Don't know if this was posted yet or not, but just found these while browsing youtube. Sorry if this is a repost. Guess there are a few turbo 919's around. (Barton, you'd best just not watch these videos)

I figured they had to be posted here somewhere before... I really like the second one. The whole turbo set up is very clean.

Since you started asking questions. . .

ECM - is a PCIII not up to the task for something like this?

Does the 919's FI even have a way of monitoring air? MAF / MAP? (I've never really payed attention to that, but I thought it was a pretty 'dumb' FI system. Is that the idea behind swapping out the ECM?)

Are the injectors capable of flowing enough fuel?

I'm sure I could think of more but I'm tired.

A full system is the way to go w/ the electronics, there are several options.

Bill has already worked out the details of the plumbing and is apparently ready to fab some parts upon request.

With the cost of a full exhaust system being almost half the price of this system I think it's a fairly good deal. I'm fairly sure as soon as I get the money I'm going to get one. . . my one buddy with a turbo busa said he would put it on for beer

2 grand was my budget for the project and that was with me running down the fab work.

2200 for the kit doesn't seem bad but it's unclear about the exhaust cost/mods. The parts are listed but there is some detail lacking. No doubt an email to William Welter Jr. would clear that up.

i am expecting a reply from him tomorrow... i will post up...

like i said tho... i can get the turbo local here for cheap.. i need everything but the turbo..

and i don't think the pc3 has quite the abilities of a dedicated ecm... i think the injectors will flow enough ... it will be interesting to see....

It looks like the kit has everything you need, and all exhaust mods done with an exchange of the left muffler. I don't know if the 2200 is the final cost, but it appears that whatever the final cost is will get everything done but put it on the bike.

maybe... i spent the day hunting exhaust parts... i got really tired of that loud a$$ muffler... so i found a s/s cbr900rr exhaust with a c/f muffler on it and i got that for $100 cash.. then i went found some new exhaust gaskets... and then i managed to strip one of the nuts and booger the threads on a stud... then i just found a tap and dye set i could afford...

now in the morning i am gonna finish putting the new pipe on... and i have a friend owns a shop here local ... me and him were chatting today and it seems he has put 900rr cams in a 919 before.. *(he is not a b.s. artist.. and he knows he will not make a penny off me except for the parts which he is basically giving me)... and as i was saying he said with the 900 cams and springs.. cleaning up the heads a bit no heavy porting just schmooving things out..and the thinner head gasket and milling the head a bit to pick up compression that they observed about 12-14 hp gain...(let the name calling commence).... we discussed the turbo and he said it would wear the bike out "quick quick"

but taking and installing the 900rr cams with a mild port job.. with the 900rr camsprings and degreeing in the cams.. sounds like something i can do for under 150 bucks with a little help from a friend...

now start arguing...

My guy says exactly the opposite, stuff like porting, pistons, and cams make for a less reliable motor and that a turbo will not damage at all. . . but then again he does ride a Suzuki with a turbo and nitrous

Keep the boost low and you'll likely do less damage any time soon.

Anyone who's actually worked with turbos will tell you, Boost is addictive and it's damn near impossible not to crank it up until you've blown up a couple and punished your wallet without mercy.

There's about $35,000 standing between me and where I want to be on specific turbo project. All I have to do is turn a little knob just a bit further, blow the head gasket and I'll be on my way. Haven't done it yet but every time I take her out, it's a temptation...even with all the little gauges that tell me danger lurks.

I think that the stage 1 kit only goes up to 7lbs, which shouldn't be enough to blow a gasket, so stage one should be safe for a long time

919 Turbo Photos

Hi all, just joining this thread also.

We've been updating the new website, and have pictures finally on there. We've had the bike apart while taking photos for the Installation Manual, and just got it back together.

The website is nearly finished, so please have a look. We would appreciate any suggestions on the site or the 919T itself.

Thanks.

- Bill
