Why...........no. It can't I don't think.

Lady did that to me in Malibu California back in the 70's. The plus was that I saw here in my rearview, moved to the right enough for her to go by and screech to a halt 30 feet in front of me and to the left.

Knocking on wood now, almost 40 years later.

In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.

YIKES! My first thought is that we always assume cagers will act like idiots - because they do. Therefore, in this situation, a two-lane road with no shoulder to speak of and only a grassy embankment in high traffic is no place for a rider to stop. I would not voluntarily stop there just to wait for a buddy to catch up and if I had stalled there I would have gone into the grass to get clear of traffic. But that's me.

The guy on the bike in front didn't stop for a fellow rider, it was a funeral procession.

Lots of folks miss that and mis-judge the bikers; ALL traffic was stopping for the funeral procession. It was for a young man killed in a wreck on that same road earlier that week (car).

My mistake. I totally missed that. At first glance it appeared the car ahead was afraid to pass the stopped rider. But the situation was even more precarious. The precession had no police escort, which I thought was required, and several of the cars did not have headlights on. Still the driver of the pickup must have been impaired, texting or speeding.

This reminds me of the time I almost got rear-ended stopping for a school bus taking on kids.

That's exactly one of the points made in the video about lane splitting and how it's safer. Funny thing is that the rider with the camera was probably against the law in most states.

They talk about this and how it can save a life because we have no where to go in that situation.

In most city traffic, if you move off to the side like that, the cars behind you fill the gap rather than wait for you to get back in line.

Drivers and lawmakers are really pretty clueless and careless.

They are not required to have police escorts here in KY either. My wife almost t-boned a hearse a couple weeks ago at a blind intersection when she had the green light. She called the cops and asked where their escort was. They told her is wasn't required and that they only escort when not busy. Then they told her to drive more carefully and pay attention.

I wish I could make out what the person is saying at the end. Can anyone tell?
Also, notice the third guy in line in the GMC pickup. He's clearly in the oncoming lane and forces the car onto the shoulder. What is that about?

Four wheels move the body ... two wheels move the soul.

First was about lane splitting, The second was more of a personal opinion I guess, don't want to derail the thread over "civil unions"

I assumed it was about lane splitting, but I don't know if lane splitting is legal in OR. I thought CA was the only state.

Kinda funny about lane splitting, CA tends to be a very restrictive state but allows lane splitting, other states don't.

I saw the GMC, complete A$$. They need to kill a few more before they wake up.

You non CA riders ought to send that link to the local law makers.

I dug around in the OR law shit, there really nothing that says its legal but there's also nothing directly prohibiting it either

CA is the only state so far that allows it. The kicker is that Cali doesn't allow it legally. They also don't disallow it legally either.

Totally illegal in Oregon. Maybe this will help?

Quote:
In Oregon: Motorcycles/Mopeds can lane share up to two abreast. All other lane sharing or splitting is illegal.

Oregon Revised Statutes pertaining to:

814.240 Motorcycle or moped unlawful passing; penalty. (1) A motorcycle operator or moped operator commits the offense of motorcycle or moped unlawful passing in a lane with a vehicle if the operator does any of the following:

(a) Overtakes and passes in the same lane occupied by the vehicle the operator is overtaking, unless the vehicle being passed is a motorcycle or a moped.

(b) Operates a moped or motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.

(2) This section does not apply to a police officer in the performance of official duties.

(3) The offense described in this section, motorcycle or moped unlawful passing in a lane with a vehicle, is a Class B traffic violation. [1983 c.338 689]

814.250 Moped or motorcycle operating more than two abreast; penalty. (1) A person commits the offense of operating a moped or motorcycle more than two abreast if the person is operating a moped or motorcycle on a roadway laned for traffic and the person is riding abreast of more than one other motorcycle or moped in the same lane for traffic.

(2) The offense described in this section, moped or motorcycle operating more than two abreast, is a Class B traffic violation. [1983 c.338 690]

and for more than 3-wheeled vehicles:

811.385 Depriving motorcycle or moped of full lane; penalty. (1) A person commits the offense of depriving a motorcycle or moped of a full lane if the person operates a motor vehicle upon a roadway laned for traffic in a manner that prevents a moped operator or motorcyclist from full use of a lane.

(2) This section does not apply to operators of motorcycles or mopeds whose use of lanes is controlled by ORS 814.240 and 814.250.

(3) The offense described in this section, depriving a motorcycle or moped of a full lane, is a Class B traffic violation. [1983 c.338 685]
Last I heard, there was a bill on the senate floor: http://www.leg.state.or.us/13reg/mea...0541.intro.pdf

Not sure what happened to it though. Doesn't seem to be moving forward according to this: SB 541 :: Oregon Legislature Bill Tracker - Your Government - The Oregonian
