I hear you on the turn signals - they'll be replaced eventually.

Great pics M5!! I really dig that first one, color and lighting is just right. Banner worthy

I'm trying to figure if your pics make those wind turbine look small, I rode alongside the freeway over here in Easter WA and they're HUGE

Yes, these are the BIG ones (for now, right?) - the big Vestas at 2 to 3 Megawatts.

Here's a copy of the top picture with the power cable photochopped out:

There's plenty of wind out this way. We've got wind farms bigger than that. They are massive structures.
Great pictures!

Great pictures!

I stand corrected. I left Alberta in 2002.... I've been in the east coast the whole time since then. We have very little "wind farms" here in the east. Truro NS is developing a lot right now. I'm guessing in the Lethbridge area. There's a good deal of wind there. In time, I will be there again. I am asking to be transfered to Edmonton in 2013. I cant wait to bike ride through the mountains!

If you do transfer let me know. We can meet up for a ride. We have an annual Alberta ride in the summer. Maybe mcromo44 will join us sometime. Hint hint!

ah ok... i wasn't sure but it looked fimiliar. that's a HUGE windfarm btw. you're driving alongside it for atleast 30-45 minutes all along the ridge. insane. that's a fun freeway too. not too heavily patrolled as well if i remember correctly. did most of my major speeding on hwy 99 after chico (cruise control @ 100mph for 1 1/2 hours with 4 other cars lol), and hwy 58 (hills makes it feel like a roller coaster ride if you go 90+ mph).

on my first drive on 58, i was about 20 miles shy of needles and threw a rod through the block thanks to an engine mount breaking while towing a heavy trailer (for my rig at the time) @6k rpms (inline 4 cyl) uphill. ended up getting towed 80 miles back to barslow for a motel room and uhaul since needles had nothing.

Windfarms! I love them!

If you've never been up close, I can recommend it. The big gearbox on the top of these triple-bladers is about the size of an MPV, and the vanes are 51 meters long - each one....Controlled to a max speed of 28rpm.

Somehow, very deceptive to look at from any distance at all...

in my area i personally hate them. seems like they looked around for the best un molested mtn and raped it with these f***ing things. But the thing that really gets me pissed is the power is not staying local its going to the citys. If it would stay local the 20 towers they put up would more than cover the needs. we get none of the benifits but all of the eye soar.
btw how tall are those towers in you pictures.

and counting

Dunno.

Using the magic eye-crometer, it looks like a vane is about 2/3 the height of the tower, which would make the tower around 75-80m tall.

so that puts the tower (to the hub) right around 290ft?
i will have to check but i think the ones they put up here are 400ft to the hub.

EDIT: 425 to the tip of the blade.
