Question Thinking about Helmets

Im looking for a low budget quiet, aerodynamic lid and not real sure what brand i should be looking at. Ive been quiet interested in HJC and Scorpian.
Not real sure where to look and what to really look for.

Both are good. HJC didn't fit me well but the Scorpion did, so best thing would be to go try some on. I have heard good things about Sparx helmets too, they cost about $100, the local Honda dealer had some for $69 in the leftover styles. SparX Helmets: For Riders, by Riders. Ride on

I loved my Scorpion EXO-400, but it is not as aerodynamic as my Shoei.

I just ordered a Scorpion EXO-700 at New Enough for $109. They have both the Burst and Rivet Models for this price. Tried them on at the dealer. Great quality helmet for the price.

Thanks loads for the tip on New Enough. Amazing that those two designs are half price just for the artwork. Hell, they're just stripes, and the Black/Red Burst is actually kind of sharp (and available for my Shoei-shaped XXL head).

But I guess people really care about the artwork. Heck, as long as it doesn't have Hello Kitties on it, I don't much care what the helmet looks like. I've never been much into laughing skulls and flames, either, but half price is half price.

I tried it on at the dealer, too. I always feel like a jerk doing that, but I make sure I buy something else I need when I do. They probably sell a lot of bungie nets that way.

The EXO-700 fits great.

I have had the black/red burst for a year and a half now and have not been dissappointed even though I paid a hundred more than the current price and I really liked the garphics when I bought it

yw sir. I bought the black/silver burst. I saw all of the colors in a dealer on Friday and its a nice looking helmet and fits and feels great. Went home and ordered one. Couldn't beat the price.

Like said above. DOT/Snell. After that it is all up to you on features and weight. +1 on the earplugs then noise isn't an issue.

I have the Scorpion EXO-700 but my next one might HJC. Just haven't decided yet.

Another thread said the RF1100 has just been released so RF1000's may be dropping price.

Actually, the article linked was about the new XR-1100. That might mean that the RF-1100 is coming on its heels, or it might not.

I wouldn't expect a really big price drop in any event.

There are so many good helmets. Find one that fits and is safe, and you're good.

I just got an HJC IS-16. Fits my head perfectly. And, the best thing is that it has an inner sun visor that you can slide down. Awesome! For me at least, this is so imperative. I ride everyday and almost everyday, I go to work (or somewhere) when it is light and go home when it is dark. I used to either 1. Take an extra untinted visor in my backpack, 2. Squash my head with sun glasses inside the helmet (which would constantly climbing up my head), 3. Ride with the tinted visor at night (yikes), or 4. Ride with an open visor at night so that I could see clearly (watch out for the bugs). Option 1 was really the only right way to go for me, but it was cumbersome.

With my new helmet, I just flip the sun visor down during the day and flip it up at night. $140 from newenough.com. Not necessary for everyone, but for my riding habits, it is great.

Good luck. There is a lot of good helmets to choose from.

I am about to try an AGV stealth. Found some great prices at extremesupply. Running a RF1000 now. Nothing wrong with it, just boring black.

Gmax 68s 2009 GMax GM68S Graphics Helmet w/ LED! $105 extra tinted visor. Very comfortable (for me) good ventilation, light weight, and visor works well. Won Web Bike World helmet of the year 2007 . GMAX GM68S Helmet - webBikeWorld

Since I dropped the bike last weekend, I'm wondering if I need a new helmet. It's got a big rash on one side, but I don't think it caught any of the impact (I think my knee got most of that). Of course, it did happen kind of fast.

What's the general feeling on a rashed helmet? Call it done and replace it?

New Enough still has the Scorpion EXO-700's for $109.

If you're not absolutely sure don't take a chance, especially since a scratch is where a break would occur in a crash since it is now the weakest part of the helmet.

With the adrenalin charged "Oh Sht" factor just before you went down, I would be surprised if you realized how hard you hit. I would replace it. Besides, who wants to ride with a scratched up lid?

Ok, thanks for the advice. It's a shame to replace a brand-new helmet, but I guess it did its job. You're right about memory - I was into the road pretty much face-first and didn't realize it until I saw the helmet.

The replacement is on its way.
