My new favorite piece of "gear"

Not really gear, but accessory I guess. A few weeks ago I made an impulse buy of an ENO hammock at REI. I thought I might use it around the yard in the nice weather.

ENO SingleNest Hammock - Free Shipping at REI.com

Today I threw it in my tankbag before heading out for a ride where I knew I would be making some stretch-stops at a few roadside parks. This thing will be in my tankbag every time I go for an all-day ride now. It only takes a few minutes to set up, and it is super comfortable for a mid-ride break.

The hammock is made of nylon and stuffs into a small pouch. The web straps that go around the tree or other anchor point and fit into the other small pouch.

Boots up, relaxation mode:

It was a little on the expensive side... but it seems to be good quality, and it was great being able to lounge a bit in the middle of a ride!

I have the hammock, straps, rain fly, bug net and gear loft. I use them camping with my jeep, on the motorcycle, in my backyard, and on long trips with my Subaru.

As long as you can avoid any UV damage from leaving it out in the sun that stuff will last forever.

I got the DoublesNest tho... fun cannodling with the lady

I'm considering this. On long road trips I only stay at a hotel every other night to freshen up. The odd nights I walk off into a field or somewhere quiet under the stars to sleep.
This would make it more comfortable and keep me off the ground, but it would be harder to find a spot, as I'd have to find trees.

I've got this one: Amazon.com: Texsport La Paz Hammock: Sports & Outdoors

Not as nice and probably won't hold up as long, but comfy as hell, and only $18. Comes with rope to tie to a tree. You can get tree straps, but I've used the ropes and it works just fine.

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

One downside of not being on the ground is if it's chilly your 'bottom side' gets cooled. A mylar blanket holds heat pretty well tho.
