Frank Thomas Strike Titanium

So, I was in the new Cycle Gear store on Saturday. Just checking it out, as this is the first time I have ever been in one. Nice selection of Astars, Dainese, FT gear. One of the sales"kids" (can't call em salesmen, as they all looked 18 or younger) gave me a flyer, and mentioned some coupons. I didn't really take notice until he said all Frank Thomas gear was 20% off. Ok, you got my attention. I tried on a Strike Titanium one piece, and I was impressed with the build quality and features for the price. The suit listed at $500, but with the coupon, that dropped down to $400+tax. Add to that a free set of FT Strike gloves, and I was hooked. So, I walked out with a suit, and a free pair of gloves for $427.00. Flame on, someone tell me I made a horrible decision, and I need to return them ASAP.

They opened a new CycleGear in Louisville also. I had never seen the Frank Thomas stuff, but it looked pretty decent. Tried on a few jackets and they fit pretty well, seemed okay.

Yeah, I thought about him first, but I want to get on the track this year, and for the price, I figured it was worthwhile. I'll get the "good suit" when WIM finishes his initial production runs.

James - A Deal is a Deal and I respect that. I will still run you down with Dave's Jeep at the next gathering, but a deal is a deal. Good buy. I know where the Frank Thomas gear is made and if I am correct, that line is actually owned by CycleGear. It is certainly a notch above I...something and I believe their stitching is also above the Rocket guy's standard.

Thanks for the vote of encouragement WIM. I felt like the purchase was a justifiable savings for the quality. They did have a Dainese suit hanging next to it for a comparison. Needless to say, I would be apartment shopping right now if I had come home with that one.

My SO liked the look of the low priced FT jacket and bought it. I then examined it closely and discovered very poor PRC quality (unraveling threads and thin leather) and returned it. I'd hate to experience a seam blow at 60MPH. It only hurts once to buy the best. My vote is to return it!

I guess if you can swing it, I'd agree. I would have came home with the Dainese(I did). Very happy with it.

Everyone thinks Dainese is too much but if you shop around it's hardly any more than any other GOOD suit. I got mine for like $1250 or around that. Consider that most anyone elses better suits are around $900-$1000... it's pretty good of a deal.

Don't you have to weigh like 120lbs and have shoulders that match you waist dimensions to wear Dainese?

That scenario works when you aren't married. Justifying purchases under the guise of safety works until they have been around it for a while. After being surrounded by my track days and associated gear, she knows all the names of the gear mfrs.

Had a coat by them and the zipper fell apart twice and the button on the new one that i got fell off! Marcus had the same coat and it started coming apart at the zipper as well, not bad as mine but all the same i took it back to them and they traded it up for a Dainese!! It's ok jacket but doesnt fit as nice with my lanky long arms! NOT FALLING APART!! Just telling you this cause who wants something that will bust at the seems when you need it most! Not saying that it will just passing the info on buddy! Be safe! here is my thread asking about it previously!! It is a different coat but cost about 270 now i think.

oh and the wifer was pretty ticked off but it is your butt your protecting, and unless she just wants the insurence money she'll come around!! It will take awhile if like mine! I'm Still sleeping with the dog! JK

OK, so I took the FT suit back yesterday. Couple of reasons.
1. Listening to my trusted friends on this site.
2. Read a couple of reviews about seams bursting.
3. Not familiar enough with the name to put my skin on the line with it.
4. My trackbike has been put on hold.
5. More to follow when I look at another suit to purchase.

When I returned the FT, the manager wanted me to do an exchange for this Dainese suit. Claimed he would let me have it for $800 out the door. I told him I would think about it, and come back later.

That's a great negotiation tactic! Buy something cheap, then have your WT Bros confirm it's c***, when you return it the retailer is so embarrassed they make you a deal! That one has to be safer than FT.

Neat. Not their most technical suit but I'm sure it's nice. I'm not familiar with that particular one. Try it on first.

With the addition of the Aprilia in the garage, it seems I am back to suit shopping. I just ordered the new Alpinestars Octane 2 piece.

See it here

I got a much better price from my dealer than it is listed, so no worries. The price actually came out to be not much more than the F.T. I returned.
