Weather is getting buggy over the coastal range here in So. Cal..........but not like that, man!

In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.

I live about a half mile from a super large lake and for about a week in May we get massive amounts of lake flies that tend to swarm into huge black clouds. I was riding home at dusk one night on a hot day and had my visor open about an inch at the bottom on my full face helmet. I drove through one of those swarms and got a face full. I swallowed a couple. Nearly flew into the ditch and had to pull over to empty out my helmet. I know how you feel!

and no matter how hard you resist the urge you try to clean it with a gloved hand and it just makes it 10x worse.

Oh yeah, in Florida we've got plenty of bugs, this was after about a mile riding at night near water

But we also have Love bugs, nasty little critters that only live to reproduce and strip the paint off the front of your car. Once they 'dry' onto your car they are very very hard to remove too

This is the nastiest pic I could find:

And this one is just funny, its from a ride I was on a few years ago with really bad love bugs

There were a few days in February when it was around 60-something degrees during the day, but it was still to cold yet for bugs to come out. I could ride around with sunglasses and my visor open and not worry about getting a nostril/mouth full of 'em.

It took me no less than 20 minutes to clean the bug mess from my helmet, jacket, and boots after my ride up from San Jose.

Ironically, the worst part of it was in my last 20 minutes of riding at 9:30 at night as I crossed a bridge near a lake

Just threw a wet washrag in the microwave for one minute, then layed it steaming on top of the helmet. Leave it for 3-4 minutes and the bugs just wipe right off. No cleaners needed.

Had to use that same method just the other day.

Seems the guy in front gets all the bugs, my wife had MUCH less than I.

I hate riding at dusk for this very reason.

So, ya don't like bugs, huh?

Here's a couple of tips:
Carry Windex or Pledge multi-surface wipes in your tank bag. I even made a little bar-mounted dispenser cup so I can clean my visor on the fly. (that was so bad)

. . . . . or you could just do this:

See? No bugs!
