Boots to buy.

I'm going to buy some boots soon. I've been riding in my steel toed sneakers for the last to years to work and combat boots when I'm not riding to work. After reading about bad accidents and the after effects to your ankle and lower leg, I'm going to start wearing some. Plus I'm not as invincible as I used to be.
So my question is: Sidi cobras, fusions, or these alpinestars-s-mx-5-boot? I have a buddy who swears but alpines but people here seem to prefer Sidis.
If someone knows of a better option for 150 to 250 I'd love to hear about it. The cobras are 260 new but I'm willing to stretch the budget to get them if their worth it.
Thanks.

I can't say which ones to get, but for me, I wouldn't buy a pair that didn't have some kind of vent or something.

Also, the height. Should be over the ankle, but I've heard the higher (taller) boots take longer to re-learn how to shift gears. Anything much over the ankle will have an effect on shifting.

Over the ankle is what I'm going for. Riding home at night with animals and freak storms, I should invest in the protection. I'll deal with the new shifting feel. All the boots have vents and my feet can sweat if need be. I always wear my helmet, jacket and get shit at work. These will just more fodder.

I know a bit about this and will go one about AGAT.

I wear these, Gaerne grw aquatech road/sport boots, Gaerne road and sport boots, motorcycle, tyres, parts, accessories, Auckland | Cycletreads

Because boots without the ankle support wont help in a tumble crash which means broken ankles. I would strongly recommend that style.

Your workmates dont have to live with injuries if you come off......

Thanks nz that's what I'm going for. Hell I've already got a workmate to wear his jacket and helmet more. Maybe this will rub off. (BTW I don't have a helmet law in my state.)

Our country has the law. But we have a strong AGAT movement here. I would rather have mates not get hurt if they come off.

+1 on the ankle protection.

I've got something similar to these, which look less full-on moto boot, if that's an issue for you. But do go for a waterproof liner, if poss.

Not to go on but.....

My partner had the style of boots I linked to when she hit a car at 60mph. She flew 18 meters tumbling. Both boots showed impact damage but her ankles and feet were fine.

I had a low speed slide in mine and just scuffed the toe sliders.

Should I start posting pics of feet that didnt wear protection?

I love my sidi's. can really comment on anything else. If you have a bike shop with all these boots, try them on for comfort. See which one fits you the best

I have a lot of gear, different helmets, 4 jackets, pants, boots... Hands down my favorite single piece of gear is my boots.

Alpinestars Web Gore-Tex Boots :: MotorcycleGear.com

I wish I had bought them sooner. I use them on my 919. Super comfy. I could wear them all day long, walking in them is fine.

Only down side is when I'm on my SS bike I like wearing a solid more race style boot.

For commuting the gore tex boots friggin ROCK!

I've been wearing S-MX-5's for about 18 months now, mostly in dry weather, but including VERY hot and VERY cold. I have nothing but great things to say about the boots - super-comfy, and very solid.

Love my Sidi Mega Vertigo because its a hard boot, has replaceable parts, and comes in 2e wide (I wear 4e so it's the closest thing).

Do NOT buy Revit boots. They've got great jackets and pants but their $200+ boots are garbage and fall apart after a year and change.

I'll second the Sidi recommendations. Love my Vertigos - I even crashed in them last year. Some of the plastic armor bits were damaged but they kept my feet and ankles completely intact.

+1 on Sidi. If you can afford Vertigo, go for it. Another great boot is Sidi Vertebra... BTW, what size are you? I just ordered some for my self, but if they don't fit, I will be selling for a good price .

What size are your boots? I'm 10.5 normal wide and I can go 11 with thicker socks.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to buy the A star gore-tex boot. I'm not one to ride in the rain much but I do like to ride in cooler weather and get caught in freak storms sometimes on the way home. The Sidi Vertigo is a little out of my price range and looks like a little more boot than I want. I post up a pic once they get here.

New boots arrived today. Alpine star gore TeX. Fit feels great. Sons birthday today so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to try them out. No more riding in sneakers for me. Thanks for the opinions and suggestions. Mods can close this out if they want to.
