Akuma helmets

So far I have read great reviews about this product. Quiet, lite, great airflow, and LEDs for safety and convenience. So I have one preordered. Won't come in until late Sept. That is when I pay and they ship. Anybody heard anything bad about them? I am currently using a Scorpion Exo-400.

Nice looking lids for sure, they sure look like the Gmax 68s helmets though but with better graphics. How many double cheese burgers is that one going to set you back?

$399.99 plus another $100.00 for a photochromatic lense. I have one for my Scorpion and it's awesome. The one for the Akuma looks like it gets a bit darker than mine does. The reviews said they are right up there with Shoei and Aria. So the price ain't too bad....quite a few double cheeseburgers though.

Well, the gmax is going to be around 120 bucks and it also comes with LED lights in the back so, if you like the design and like to shell out 400 bucks, so be it, if you want lights in the back, I'd go for the 120 bucks

goto gmaxhelmet.com and check out the Motorcycles, Full Face, 68s, you can see a full 360 degree view of them... the dragon ones are very nice.

How is the helmet for you? I can't find a review for it anywhere. That is one thing I have been reading a great deal on. Helmet weight, shape, visor thickness, quality/safety standards, airflow, noise levels, etc. etc... What are your thoughts, comparisons, and pros/cons on the 68S?

Don't really know dark, the 68s is a new helmet and is not going to be here until Nov, it is only DOT for the moment but my reps tells me is a thing of beauty (Sales Reps = Use Car Salesman!). He is supposed to be here next week with the Sample so I'll give you more details then.

I wasn't trying to screw with your head or anything is just that it was kind of a coincidence that I was talking to my rep about that helmet and the LED lights on Tuesday and then I see your post.

Again, the paint job on those akuma are extremly nice (at least in those pics) but I don't eat that BS that they were created by Navy Pilots, I mean... what the hell do they know about Helmet safety!

It looks like a nice helmet with some good features so maybe I'm way off base here, but wouldn't all those purdy little vents and ridges make that one unbearably loud helmet? Think about it, all those little bumps and ridges will screw with the air flow and create some resonances that could be pretty ugly.

They should design the Army helmet based on the OH58D.

Nov. Are they on back order until then, or just not coming out until then? One of the guys was stationed at Lemoore if I remember correctly. I am looking at getting my girl the 68S to start out with. She doesn't want to spend too much. I like my Scorpion, but the visor seal wore out a lot faster than I care for, and her eyes are a lot more sensitive than mine.

If you are talking about the Akuma...the main vents up top or recessed into the helmet making them quiet, but the 68S...yeah that looks like it could get a bit noisier than normal.

I definitely will. I will do an initial write up after the first couple of rides, and another after the helmet breaks in.

The Akuma and the 68 both look cool. I would like the designs of the Akuma if they didn't have military specific names on them. Having not been in the Navy or USAF I am not to keen on wearing a helmet adorning their name. I support our military, don't get me wrong.

RC90, how much can you let those 68s go for?

They have 4 other helmets to choose from that aren't military themed. That have LED's, reflective paint jobs, titanium mesh vent screens, and even one that is made outta carbon fiber weighing less than 3 lbs.

RC90 correct me if I am wrong but the 68S goes for $120, right?

From what the rep told me, this is a brand new helmet coming out on Nov and it will MSRP for 120 or 130 at the most. Again, this is only DOT and I don't know if it is because snell 2000 is still pending or not. I have not seen the helmet yet.

I normally don't like to offer helmets that are just DOT because they offer no protection in my POV but as of late and after reading what Snell does for testing, I don't know what to think anymore.

Maybe we can talk to ridgerunner and/or Jetblast to see if a Group buy is in order for this? W/O even knowing my cost we could possibly go 99.00 + shipping.

Just keep us informed. The 68 looks pretty bitchin. I too do not know what to believe from these testing standards. Obviously a helmet is better than no helmet, but I do want to protect my dome.

Just got a call from Akuma last night. The helmet won't be in until the beginning to mid October.

RC, any changes on that GMax? Still just DOT and coming out in Nov?

Just one point to note here. The Stealth helmet is the KBC VR-2 Helmet. Identical Shell, and indentical top vents. The only difference is the addition of LEDs, and the Chin vent. I like the graphics and wish they had for VF-2 Bounty Hunters. However, I don't know if I would pay that much for them, just my .02 cents worth.

The do look very similar. The Ghost Rider used to be available for $280, but I am guessing popularity is the cause for the raise in price.

When they got a hold of me I told them I was in a Tomcat squadron and asked if it would be possible to have killer paint change up the color scheme to match my old squadron. They said there was no way. Maybe Killer Paint might be able to do it once I have the helmet in hand.

There are still F-14D's running around out there? I thought VF-2 was one of the last with the Turkeys and they switched to the new Hornets - F-18's. That is cool if you guys are still flying the Tomcats. Love them birds. Can these guys provide you with a solid color like White? That would be easier for someone to paint than one that was already painted and clear coated.

As far as the similarity, I know the KBC helmets inside out. I am 100% sure that is the same shell. The chances of coincidence are just too slim.

No. Unfortunately all F-14's have been decommed VF-2 had Super FAGs before we (VF-154) did. I loved working on those birds. I would jump at the chance to do it again. I talked to Akuma and said the can't do any special orders like that. I still get a Tomcat lid though.

They do look pretty darn similar. Reading about both of them the Stealth has a FG/Kevlar shell, and the VR-2 has a FG/CF/Kevlar shell. That is about the only difference I can find on paper.
