AFX, ZOX, and other helmet shopping...

Hey guys- I just got a 919 last week, and I'm going for a new helmet as well. after looking around kneedraggers.com, I found a few I like in my price range (less than $250).

I have an AFX helmet for dirt riding my WR450. no complaints, but different aspects to be concerned about: speed, noise, etc. basic level of safety to me riding in the trees compared to the concrete jungle here in town!

anyone have an AFX? I like this, but it's so cheap, I'm VERY hesitant!

also, found a ZOX on ebay... can't find much else about this brand though. looks decent, but only DOT certified?

I like some of the ICON helmets too, and prices seem decent enough. Any opinions on these?

so now you can see a few like, and my price range. anything you want to suggest would be cool.

lastly, if someone can point me to some really informative reading on SNELL testing, etc, this is all new to me, so that'd be helpful...

Thanks guys.

Check out this thread, Call RC90 for a shoei and I guarentee you wont regret it. I have two RF 1000 helmets already or I would be calling him and buying one myself

If your limit is 250, the shoei might not be the right helmet for you but, if you are not press for time, I am going to have a few other helmets on sale in about week or less... Not as good as the shoei but definately equal if not better than the Icon and/or much better than the AFX.

Not familiar with the ZOX so I won't even comment on it but I am in no way saying is a crappy helmet.

Check out www.sparxhelmets.com. These are some of the best entry level helmets I've seen. Lots of features for the money. I actually held them in my hands and tried them on my head and was very impressed. Sparx is a subsidiary of KBC.

Leave the ZOX alone, their quality is not good.... really poor worksmanship. ICON is okay, not a top dog. One to consider is KBC, good quality for fair price. RC90... hook the man up.

Support our sponsor. He will get you a good helmet at a fair price.
