I'm the new guy. I joined a month or so ago but have just now had time to post. There appears to be lots of useful info and some entertaining characters in here. I picked up a carryover 06 919 in April. Its good to be riding again.
Welcome, and congratulations on purchasing the finest all around street bike ever made! (I might be said to be a tad biased on this subject)
As I am sure you noticed, there are a lot of very sharp people participating in this forum, so go ahead and ask any and all questions you may have -- there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid mistakes because you were afraid to ask. One thing, though: ride it bone stock for at least 3,000 miles before jumping on the modification bandwagon, it will give you time to get used to all the little idiosyncracies (what bike doesn't have at least some?) and arms you with a body of knowledge to draw from for any mods you may want to do.
At the risk of scaring you away, a few questions for you to get the ball rolling. How experienced a rider are you and what motorcycles have you owned previously? How do you intend to use the 9er? Do you have a name for it yet? How many oxtails would it take to reach the moon? (Nosy, aren't I?)
If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

Oh yes, there will be mods. Been riding since I was 7 and I lost the ability to leave anything alone many, many years ago. My ride to work is 100 miles , so the 9 had 3600 miles on the clock in just under 2 months. That should be broken in enough to start the mod-tard behavior. As far as the bike goes, I love it. My last ride was a 2004 GSXR750 and I loved it but it was just waaaay too uncomfortable on the road. I miss the HP of the GSXR, but the 9's torque, agility and comfort makes up for most of the power difference (except for the angled down, balls in the tank, plywood seat)
