Picking it up tomorrow

So, I already introduced myself, when I "got" the 919, but picking it up tomorrow. Have about a 5 mile ride home. I'm coming from an 82 GS450 Suzuki, with a bout a years riding experience. I'm 34, have read tons of threads this week in anticipation (love the 919!!!!)....what should I expect on my first ride?

More importantly, what should I look out for?

You should expect your first ride to take about 3 hours and consist of the very long way home.

Watch those slick new tires and feel free to short shift her until you get more comfortable with it.

Good luck and ride safe.

Put a fist full of petroleum jelly / vaseline in your mouth before you ride it home. That way you will be able to get the smile off your face eventually!

Have fun. I bet you go more than the direct 5 miles.

My prediction....a very smooth ride. The 919 is very easy to ride. I went right from the MSF 250's to ride mine home.

Highs in the 80s and zero chance of precip until after 6p.m. in the AR, VA area.

Looks like Din will be enjoying today.

80s all weekend so my plan is to get to know it real well .....just want to make sure i get the throttle and brakes feel down pat before i go out cruisin too far.

Climb on, sit back and enloy the ride. You're gonna have a blast. Just don't go WOT for a while and you'll be golden. Flippin' that throttle all the way is like kicking a rocket in the ass.

Have fun, ride safe and enjoy.

Oh yeah... and welcome to the community.

holy smokes

Made it home! Holy smokes I love this bike. Guy I bought it from was super cool, and bike is clean!! only 4K on the clock.

Best part was picked it up in DC where they are having the IMF conference so cops everywhere, so had to take a detour around the national mall/monuments so it was a blast.

First thoughts is: 1) holy sh*t
2) f*n A
3) holy sh*t!

I came from a great little Suzuki and im just gettin used to the torque, turning and power. I found that turning this requires more of a push than a 'turn" (my old bike i actually had to turn the handlebars).
Kept it at bay for the most part but it was begging to be unleashed. I'll have to earn that...
-lastly, did i mention i love this bike?

Going to read my manual, eat lunch and get back out!
here's the first pic-
