New to 919, anyone near IL/IA QC?

Greetings all, I'm new to the 919, i just escaped six years of hell on a Harley that left me stranded 3 times, and broke all the time. I recently found an '02 919 with 0 (zero) miles on it, and couldn't pass up the deal, so far i've loved every one of my 578 miles, and look forward to picking up pointers on how to keep it a bullet proof monster! Is there anyone in my area (IL Quad Cities 61244) that knows a responsible group of adults to ride with (thats not a statement about age).... again, i look forward to being a member of Wrist Twisters! Thanks! Chad

Welcome! Where did you find an '02 with zero miles? And what did you pay for it?

I picked it up at Douglas & Frye in Sterling IL (about 60 miles from me) and i payed 5,500 for it. I thought it wasn't too bad since they go for what like 8.400 now? They still have an '03 sitting on the floor as well.

Holy crap! A virgin '02 919!? I can't imagine how many idiots must have walked past that bike in 5 years until a genius walks into the place and buys it. Let me just say that is the single biggest score of all time. I bow to you O' Fortunate One!

BTW, Welcome to the hive.

Nice way to trade up! There is actually some bonehead making the trade the other way... lets see heavy, slow, lazy boy or light, quick, nimble. Seems like a no brainer to me. Welcome to the joint!

Speaking of the topic of gas and oil, I'm a fan of BP Ultimate, around here it's the last 93octane that isn't ethanol blended (the joys of the corn belt), but what oil is prefered for the 919, Mobil 1? Royal Purple? Red Line? Price is no object for the life of the bike!

High octane is not needed with the 919.

If price is no option; Repsol full syn. after first 1,500 miles.

The 919 will run on low grade Mexican cactus juice. The $$ you save can be used for those addictive mods.

I've read that the 919 will run okay on lower octane fuel (and may actually be better for performance) i'm just not a fan of getting bad gas at the quicky mart, and the BP has NEVER let me down yet, it's all my Subaru would burn w/o a MIL triggered (it was a little modified) I spose BP lower octane is still good, just not a fan of the ethanol blend.

Man you are one lucky bastid! A completely unmolested 02?!? Nice find!

The ethanol blend will run fine, just don't put in the E85 crap. The manual says 87, so that's what goes in my tank

I'm in the middle of Illinois, so I'm a bit of a drive from you, but if you'd be interested in a Starved Rock ride I'm all ears...
