New Old Guy

I hate intros. I'm 53, been riding since I was 13. I have owned a lot of bikes, starting with a Cushman scooter, Allstate moped, then a Honda 250 (rejugged to 305!) Dream, several dirt bikes, mostly Yamahas, Suzis, and Hondas, a '72 Triumph TR6R, Honda 750, 920 Yamaha Virago (I actually still have a couple of those)... Lot of bikes. Hell, I still have a lot of bikes. A Honda Shadow 1100, a Suzuki VX800, a Kawi 440B, a Honda CX500. I can only say that , though I ride the Shadow a lot, I perfer a Standard (Naked Bike?) to anything else. My next one'll likely be a 919, though I 'd consider a BMW or possibly a Bandit. We'll see. There, that about says it all to start.

We've reached our limit of old guys, but we can make an exception this time. But, you saying you are considering a 919 may just killed that exception.

Welcome the the fray!

The Cushman was a miracle. It was a flat-side model with a pull cord and a kick start that you had to raise up by hand before you stomped it. It never started for me with the kicker. But, considering my dad gave it to me not running, and I got it running by filing down the mount for the coil (laminates and all) so I could put a coil off an old lawnmower in... Well, even my dad said there was no way in hell it should run. It did.

Hey, I have long hair... but in an effort to be green, my brain has put in a solar panel. As far as the 919--- It's like this: I've only owned 1 new bike, and that is the VX800. (Not a bad bike, sort of a prehistoric TL1000-- basically an 800 Intruder engine with dual carbs in a standard frame. A bit slow handling.) So I usually wait until I get a deal on a used bike--- there's just so many! So I'm looking at several before I actually buy anything.
