Thumbs up New Old Guy

Hi Motorcycle Nuts
I am INTERNET challenged due to my age (legally a senior citizen).
I just signed up last night and want to say hello from Michigan (46 Deg. F).
I bought a new 919 just before Christmas and have not been able to try it out due to weather. Your forum intrigues me because I see Tech. Nerds, helpful people, and motorcycle people who are willing to help with problems - fantastic group.
I have never been on a forum and need your help to learn. Hope this posting is correct ?
Statistics: Three cycles; 1982 honda 450, 2005 Harley Electrogluide Classic; and now a 2007 919 Honda.
I have questions and will post in proper area hopefully.
God Bless and watch out for motorcycles!
Old Man JC

Hi Everyone,
Got to ride the bike today and I am impressed (113 miles). The transmission ratios are closer than I have ever ridden before. This thing is rather fast in the first two gears (pulled Wheelie without trying).
Now the bad news, the handlebars kill my hands and I have been adjusting all day to get rid of the pain. I'm 6.0 Ft and 210 lbs (skinny) and the best position to date is rolling the handlebars upward (.12inch) with mark on bar.
Also, while working on clutch and brake adjustments, I forgot to put down the side stand and over she went (scratched motor casing and bent clutch lever). Pride is hurt and blood all over - but I will survive.
I did order a 1.0 inch riser for handlebars in hopes it will help.
This machine gives better wind protection than my Harley. Note I have installed a Rifle wind shied (5 inches oversize). Love it and it looks cool. I hurt like hell or I would try to post a picture of the windshield. Your posts have already shown me how to torque handlebars.
Overall, I a little scared of the 919 and thats good.
I love it.
By the way, my prostrate is fine and only pee a couple of times a day.
Does anyone know torque for mirror pinch bolts? Please advise me if you know.
I hope in the future I will contribute to your Forum. Fantastic site.
Also, I currently have the three bikes I posted and have owned over twenty in my lifetime. Enduro nut in my youth.
God Bless and watch out for motorcycles.

Welcome aboard Old Man! Glad to hear your prostate is doing good as well!

As far as the bars go you may want to look into some aftermarket bars such as Renthal's. The inherent stiffness in the steel bars can cause some nasty vibrations that would either numb or hurt your hands after awhile. A good set of aftermarket aluminum bars may just remedy your situation.

Edit: just caught the part about the side stand....ouch! Glad you're no worse for the wear though.

Hi Mike,
Just had a chance to view your web page - Wow!. Nice looking bikes and great information. I drove the 919 today and was happy and sad. Great bike, but my hands kill me after a few miles. I adjusted handlebars up and down and ordered a 1 inch riser. Don't really know what to do next ?
If you have any suggestions; please E-mail [email protected]
Thanks Old man Jim
PS My favorite bike to date was a 1978 CB 750. Unfortunately I gave to friend

Hi Old Man (geeze that sounds disrespectful )

I rekon the 919 has way more power than I need too - but she's a bluddy bewdie to ride.

Personally - I have found this site tremendously helpful.

Cheers for now
