New member from South Dakota

Hey all!

Just would like to introduce myself. My name is Jon and I am in the process of looking for a new bike.

In the past I have had a 93 Honda F3, and a Buell Ulyssess 1200. I currently do not own a bike.

I am looking at buying a 2006 Honda 919 from a friend for $3500. It has around 7500 miles on it, but has been repainted a brighter green color.

Would this be a good deal for me? As far as I know it has never been laid over. Stock cans. I plan on making it more a street fighter with dual headlights, TBR carbon slip ons, painting it black, and bar end mirrors for a start.

What say you?

Hello and welcome! Sounds like the 919 would be a nice fit for your experience level.

I like the 919 a lot. Perfect for what I am looking for. Daily commuter in the warmer weather, can have fun in the local canyons, and maybe even a road trip here and there.

I am no racer by any means, and I could never keep up with my crazy buddies with their liter bikes back in the day in the canyon runs, but I consider myself an intermediate to advanced rider. I would like to take an advanced course at a track someday to learn more skills. I play it safe though, and I am always geared up with safety equipment head to toe.

Now I am just waiting to see the bike in person with that bad gut feeling of pulling money from my savings account. But, I have a feeling this bike will be worth it.

Welcome Dark Knight. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me if it's been well taken care of. 919 are pretty bullet proof. Good luck!

Welcome to WT, lots of good people and advice here especially for the 919. I have an 06 919 myself and it's a great bike and the price isn't bad either IMO. Good luck.

As long as you know WHY it was repainted. IMO, 90% of the time it's done because of prior damage...

And welcome!

welcome neighbor and if you do get the bike, before repainting,
there may be some members on this forum that would be willing to trade
tins (depending on the shade of green). I also have a 06 but am happy
with the red so it wouldn't be me

Thank you! He repainted it because he didn't like the red, and he had some green left over from when he painted his drift car (he has a background in auto body).

I would be repainting it a satin black. If I end up getting it, I would be open to trading tins for that color.

Just talked to him again about it. Talked him down to $3250. Just waiting for him to bring it to me in the next few days so I can give it a good look over.

There is only matte black or gloss black. If you want to trade tins, I'd be interested as I have gloss black. If you're set on satin black, you'll have to repaint. Do post pictures!

I transferred money to my checking in anticipation of buying it. Going to look at it today at lunch. I am going to grab the VIN# and take some pictures. It's a little cold today for a ride, but I am going to ride it this weekend.

I will post pics when I get back. Owner says the bike is mine if I want it.

Now to pick out a new helmet...thinking I will stick with Icon.

I told him to get the title. I am going to buy it!

Mechanically, it's in superb shape. Clutch is tight, throttle is tight, brakes are tight. New Dunlop Sportmaxx rear tire. Chain looks good. New battery.

Paint is a lot better than I had thought. There are some scratches in the left engine cover, left can, and left front turn signal. He said it did fall on it's side once while parked. BUT. You cannot feel any gouges in the scratches with your fingernail. Cosmetic only. It's a little dirty, but nothing a good wash and buff can't take care of.

I am very excited!

So. Whaddya think?

I'd buy it just for the screaming green paint. You won't be disappointed - other than having to wait for the South Dakota frozen tundra to thaw so you can ride.

So I still don't have the bike. Owner has been yanking me around a bit on the title. He originally told me the title was in his name, and the bank had a lien on it for a loan he had.

True story is the bike is titled in the original buyers name before him, and that guy gave my buddy the bike in trade for a dirt bike and a couple of paint jobs on cars. Well, one paint job is still owed, so I am just waiting for these yahoos to figure it out.

If this goes south I will be very upset. I have my body shop all ready to accept parts for a repaint, and the Honda dealership waiting to see if I still want to order the Shoei RF1100 I have picked out.

I hate people who don't get their paperwork in order. If you don't have that done, you shouldn't try to sell the bike, period. No consideration is ever given for the buyer. That said, I hope it works out for you. Niners are great and i just love that Green. Welcome to the place.

The green is going away very shortly after I buy it. It's just not me. For me it doesn't tie the bike together.

What are you guys paying for insurance? I am 37 with a clean driving record, no accidents. I am going to put the highest full coverage available on it with a $250 deductible.

I haven't called my insurance yet to see, only because I don't know if this is a done deal yet. If this falls through though, I am still going to look for a low mile 919.

I found some pictures of my 93 Honda CBR600 F3 I used to have. None parked or close up, just riding it
