New (maybe the only) 919 in El Paso.

Hi everyone! I've been sniffing around the site for about a week now, thought it was time I introduced myself.

My name is Art. As you can probably deduce from the title, I ride an '07 919 out of El Paso, TX. Unfortunately, the street-fighter scene seems to be completely non-existent in West Texas. It puts a little tear in the corner of my eye when I think about how many GSXRs and Ninja's there are out on the road... Though I find fairings aesthetically repulsing, after my latest (and first, I might add) adventure across the flat expanse of Texas, I have definitely come to appreciate the gains in aerodynamics that fairings would provide, but for me, nothing makes me feel more alive than running up to 110mph, fighting the wind just to atop my stallion. WHAT A RUSH!!

I've only been riding for about 3 years now, and after about 5 months on my 919 (I traded up from a 750 Nighthawk last October) I thought it was due time I saddled up and go on my first ride over 200 miles/day. I met a lot of interesting characters on my way through Texas, one of which turned me on to this site...an excellent find I might add! I also gained a lot of valuable experience on my 3 days from EP to Austin and back, like the need to plan better for inclement weather - I had to split my return trip into two days after riding 300 miles through a light drizzle on the first day back - that I hope to share in more detail in a more appropriate thread.

Now let's get out there and shred some pavement!!

Yea man, I spent about a week out there just getting lost on some great country roads before I had to turn back for EP. West Texas is definitely devoid of any good riding locations like those. I'm looking forward to the next time I can make it out that way.

Art, Glad I ran into you while you were on your trip. Welcome to the site! Next time you make it to the Austin area (or anywhere close) let me know. I am next to Ft Hood/ Killeen, so send me a message so we can meet up. I had talked at one time about a Texas style WristTwister Shin-Dig (just search for shin dig or some variation of the word and you will see what I am talking about) to meet and greet with people in the area. Now that Soccer season is over, maybe I need to start thinking about that again. Watch for an upcoming thread in the next couple weeks. If I wait too long, it will be too hot to have it at a campground.

Enjoy the insanity!!!

Shawn
