New guy with a 919 from Memphis

Hey guys and gals. Noticed alot of 919 tech on here so thought I would join up. Just traded my RX7 for a 2002 919 with just under 19k miles on the clock. One of its previous owners put alot of nice parts on the bike including Sato Slip-Ons, Rear Seats with Passenger Pegs, Works Rear Shock, Renthal Bars with Bar End Mirrors, Braided Brake Lines, Frame Sliders, and a PCIII that I need to re-install. Cant wait to get some miles on the bike. This is my first bike since 2006 when I sold my 1986 GSXR 1340 Big Bore bike.

Now for pics...

My old bike...

Hello and welcome! Nicely moded 919. You'll want to move your frame sliders from the engine tabs to the frame when you get a chance.

^where exactly are they supposed to be mounted? BTW the bike has been down once with them where they are at. Luckily no real damage.

They should be in the holes in the frame, a little forward and up from where they're at now.

And they are usually tied together with a single threaded rod, FYI.

You can tell. You painted the smaller side covers, didn't you (no offense OP - sweet bike you got there!)

Just don't go near LDH. He'll steal it from you first chance he gets.

This bike came from a guy named Zac in Blytheville, Arkansas. I know it passed around a few times before it got to me lol.

None taken. I really enjoyed the ride home on it. Need to get it tagged and a fresh battery since the el cheapo one it came with is shot.

Hilarious, and I trust you saw the bit about "a PCIII I need to re-install".
I sure did.
Now would that be your serial port original that you used for, lets see now, stock cans, then Moriwakis and then early and late Satos ?
I wonder what map lives inside that box today....................

One owner crashed the bike about 2 days after he bought so he might have replaced the tank I cannot remember, but if it has the original tank it would have a tell-tale ding in it from an errant air chuck

No ding at that spot. Dig on the other side from turning bars into the tank when laid down.

So LDH if this is your old bike, did I get a good bike or a lemon lol

On the frame sliders, it looks like they were designed to mount where they are. I know the Satos mount the same place. Is it just better to mount to the actual frame? Or were these incorrectly installed?

The bike was perfect when I sold it. It had made multiple 3 days weekend runs spanning several states on it and had never caused me one second of grief. As I mentioned though the next owner dropped it within 2 days of ownership and the next time I saw it after that it had a sprocket with teeth falling off of it and a chain named tetanus. Saw it a few more times after that in various hands and once in a local dealership in Memphis, but that was about 2007. A lot can happen in 5 years LOL

I understand. The bike rode flawlessly for the 45 minute ride back. Guess we will see

This is what can happen if you go down with them mounted to the engine mounts.

Here's a good thread on mounting them to the frame.

Welcome to the site!! Looks good and glad you enjoyed the ride home!

Edit: I guess you could give the VIN to LDH to see if it is his old bike or not...

Hello and Welcome!

This place has been a great resource to learn, pick up spare parts, and just shoot the breeze with other guys that ride.

Some of the guys also do a ram-air reach around every 3rd Thursday of the month. I don't get it, but they seem to really enjoy it...

Hello and welcome from Central AR!

These guys warned me about relocating the frame sliders on my first post as well! Glad I did since it ended up going down not too long afterwards lol (never let your friends ride your bike is the lesson of the story )

Thanks Aviator.

BTW it has been confirmed. I own the infamous LDH aka 919.org 919. I feel like I own a piece of 919 history now. So psyched.
