new guy

Hey, I'm a new guy to this group. Bought an '02 919 last summer. Love it. It was too long between my last bike and now. Bought a '74 Z1 in 1975 and sold it two years later. Moved back to civilization and bought a '77 KZ in 1978. Had to sell it in '86. Work and kids prevented owning a bike till last year. I told my (ex-)wife once that she didn't have to worry about me and another woman, just me and a motorcycle. Well honey. my love affair has resumed.

I've got some questions about saddle bags. Found a 2002 or 03 link describing a pair of Chase Harper bags, but don't know if they're still available. It might have been posted on this forum. The write-up showed two styles; one smaller and firm looking, the other, larger and somewhat sagging. No, I'm not confusing these with what you're now thinking of...just interested in something that will hold up to the heat of the stock cans.

Welcome to the forum. I was just down the road from you last month with a quick stop at Tinker AFB. Gorgeous country. Congrats on the renewed love affair. She's a tempting mistress.

Welcome!
I've been using an old set of saddlebags I bought for my Nighthawk back in '93. Some off-brand made of softish nylon. After the cardboard shape stiffeners were smashed, I needed to replace them with sheets of Lexan. This helps them hold their shape and focuses the load against the bike on an area I can manage.
Stock pipes with the mondo heat shields never got hot enough to warm the contents of the bags, much less cause any melting problems.
I've since changed to slip-ons with a dual clamp arrangement that takes both ends of the pressure points. Throw in some foamy anti-scratch padding and you're in.

I plan to die young, as late as possible.

1st of all, welcome, and have fun w/ your torrid affair w/ the 9er...I know mine satisfies me like no other. As fer the Chase Harper, I have a pair that I'm looking to get rid of. Mine are the smaller, but firm ones. If you're interested, PM me.

Hello Mr. Neth...Nes...Netuss...Netheses...Oh hell?! Welcome to the hive!

I bet you get some pretty good laughs from cold callers trying to pronounce your name. I know the feeling.
