new 919 owner.

just got an '04 919 today. I've done the searches, gotten oil and filter information, and some other very useful information. Thanks for the site.

The bike has 4200 miles on it, not sure what the maintenance history has been but I'll be changing the oil for now and looking it over well. What are the maintenance intervals, valve adjustment, etc.

Anything that I should be looking at on this bike? I've seen a lot of nice mods, but I'm primarily going to be using it for commuting.

Manuals, didn't have one with it so I figured I'd try to get a basic manual. I typically do all of my own maintenance, and am planning to do so with this bike as well. Any helpful suggestions on maintenance practices, etc.

Welcome
Wow... 04 with 4200 miles?
I think that's what I put on my 05 in the first couple of months after it was uncrated

thanks for the warm welcome.

great site you all have here. thanks for sharing so freely all of the information.

yes, 4200 miles on an '04 is kinda sad. I put over 20,000 on my last bike in 13 months, just sold it a couple months back. so i'm confident that this Honda will not get neglected any longer.

I look forward to riding the Honda, haven't had one in many years. My last 2 bikes have been BMW's, which i've thoroughly enjoyed. Before that I had a 2001 Suzuki bandit 1200 which was also an enjoyable bike. The Honda seems smoother than I remember the bandit being, but still has some vibes. I'll probably look to replace the bars with some Renthals or similar.

I have been doing all of my own maintenance, the BMW's have been a joy to work on with their heads completely exposed and valve adjustments made so easily. I've not done valve adjustment on anything else so I'm sure I'll be doing my research before doing this one.

I will change the oil tonight or tomorrow.

Welcome aboard Sour! Nice find '04 with 4200 miles, extremely doubtful you'll need a valve adjustment at this juncture though. There are members who've put 20k+ on there bikes and everything is still in spec.

pics.

i'll get some pics just as soon as i'm able to.

bike failed inspection, sorta. the inspecting station said it was low on brake fluid and the chain was too loose.

I stopped and got a can of DOT4 brake fluid, removed the cap and it was full. Adjusted the chain minimally to get it within spec, can't believe that they failed it as the chain was not dangerously loose. I was worried about the rear tire but it passed. So anyhow, I hope to get the inspection form so that I can get my tags on Monday. Holiday weekend has me traveling with the family.

Those are some pretty stingy inspectors you got there! Wow.
