New 07 919 owner

Just signing on to say hello to fellow 919 owner's. Recently picked up a 07 model with just 2100 miles in Minneapolis this winter and can't wait to put some serious miles on it. So far I've changed oil and filter, adjusted chain and installed a centerstand. I need recommendations on swapping out the tires as it still has the original one's installed and being 11-12 years old has me a little skittish about cranking up the speed too much. Any suggestions? I've got A bond on my Goldwing and Michelin on my FJR. I was thinking about the Michelin GT-4. Thanks

Welcome to the forum! My previous bike was an FJR and my how I loved it! I think a lot of people here recommend the Pilot Road 4 or 5. Congrats on the new bike and upload a picture when you get a chance!

Thanks guys, I was very lucky to find one that was still in 100% stock condition with such low miles. My plan today is to keep it basically stock but might add a small bikini fairing to help with the wind blast. Tires come first and need to make a decision soon. I had some Metzlers on my GS750ES and liked them too. Anyone had any experience with Continentals?

I had Continentals on my FJR when I bought it and they cupped very badly on the front. No other tire I ran on the bike had that problem.

What kind of riding are you doing? One thing that concerns me is that tires performance might be bike specific. Someone recommended the Bridgestone S21 for me, but I really can't offer any compare.

It's refreshing to see someone wanting a stock bike. I had mine up for sale over a year ago and was bashed hard by one buyer because "it needed so much work" because it was all stock.

My '07 919 had Conti Motion tires when I got it. All I can say is stay away from them. I replaced them with a set of Michelin Road 3's and couldn't be happier. What I say is get any tire you want so long as the name "Michelin" is on the sidewall someplace.

Thanks for the advice and probably go with pilot road 4 GT as I've been very happy with the set on my FJR. Thanks

Welcome Bert and congrats on the new 9'er. Great bikes. I like the Michelin Pilot Road 2,3,4,5. I'm still on the 2's because they are cheap like me. I get about 11K miles from a rear tire which is better than any brand I tried.

Enjoy and ride safe!

The GT is unnecessary and probably a bad idea on the 919. It's made for heavier touring bikes with large loads. Go with the standard Pilot Road 4 and you'll be happier.

Thanks everyone for the tire recommendations. I had the Michelin Road 4 installed over the weekend and can't wait to see how they handle the road.
