Intro and thanks

Hey everyone,

John from northern New Jersey. I've been reading the forum for about a year now but never posted. You don't know it yet but you've helped me a great deal.
I purchased a used 919 a few years back and immediately thought I'd made a huge mistake. It just never felt quite right. I was used to sport bikes but I'm older now and loved the naked look so I gave the 9er a shot. The first thing I learned here was; if you're over 200 lbs with your gear on, you want to change the fork springs. (I'm 220 without my gear) What a difference. I started to like this bike. Then some of you talked about new bars. I just installed Renthal ultra lows this weekend. Now I think I love it. And all for about $200.

Thanks!

Welcome ex-lurker. the best part of naked bikes is making them fit you and your riding style, they're kind of like an unfinished painting that you have to fill in the blank parts.
Enjoy the ride

Funny, I work in Roseland, I think I saw you drive by on Harrison Ave. last year... Is your 919 black? Aftermarket exhaust?

i weigh about 260 without gear, so.. i was kinda overshooting the rates, keeping gear in mind. if they offered a 1.05, i think that would be perfect.

Sheesh, fatty:

Man, I've been a stick since high school. Got real sick after spending some time in South America, ended up weighing 128 lbs at 6'2". Cleared some issues up with the guts (took a few years) and I'm finally back up to 160'ish. Even tried working out for a while, but seems I'm at a plateau, .

I would love to weigh 180-200.

I remember transfering to a new highschool at the end of my junior year, in gym class the 'teacher' (also the varsity football coach, surprise surprise) had us run the 40. when I crossed the line at a tick under 4.5, he comes up to me and says "how much do you weigh?" me:'220' him: what position do you play? me: left wing. hahaha.. he looked like he just caught me in bed with his daughter, and says "not this year you dont! I need a linebacker!" me: fair enough.. when do doubles start? he didnt know this, but thats the whole reason I transfered to the school. my prior school didnt have a team. ended up graduating at 225. then in the service, after graduating BUD/S, I was a dainty 238. ..and that was then.. lol

I ended up with 2 strains of E.Coli that you're not supposed to have, amoebas and parasites.

No worms, I got medication for that every 6 months. Selenium, usually, I think. Tasted like I had swallowed an aluminum pan.

I know, right!!!!

I also contracted Dengue fever. From the moment I felt fever chills hit my shoulder blades, it was 15 minutes before I was in full fledged chill convulsions. I was in a fever / coma state for 3 days before I was helped to the hospital by a local and given a shot and some medication.

I passed out multiple times when trying to get out of bed, drank 5 gallons of water over 4 days and only peed once. Sweat was dripping off of my bedsheets and onto the floor, I was sweating so profusely. I would also scream like I was being stabbed if anyone even adjusted my bed sheets on top of me, only I don't remember this, it was my housemates that told me.

All-in-all, I lost 27 pounds that week. Didn't gain it back for 10 years. Only time I have ever wished for death.

damn.. thats rugged! i had meningitis once, but I still think you 'win' this one! I will say.. that hit me like a ton of bricks! I went from feeling fine, like any other day, to (honest to dog) actually contemplating laying down on the floor of the restaurant i was in, inbetween the time I ordered a drink, and the time it arrived. I was junk for 3 days after that.. and it took a few more after that to get back up to speed.

I did the 9.5s as suggested by others here. racetech.com has a calculator which you may find helpful.
