I actually learned to ride on a 919. They're special to me.

They are awesome bikes. My first bike was a 750 Nighhawk. I bought my '07 9'er new in 08, and haven't wanted for anything else since. Well, I was temped by the new CB1000r, but that didn't last long. Nice lookin' bikes by the way.

Welcome!

Nice to have someone from the same state AND same city .

We'll have to set up a group ride. Weather has been holding out a bit for us, haven't had to coop up the bikes quite yet.

Have you started accumulating riding gear yet?

Hey, where did you end up getting the bike from? On craigslist? I knew you were looking at some CBR600's on there a while back.

Thanks Wes!

Well I have a riding jacket, gloves, and helmet but that's the extent so far.

Awesome! Does your jacket have armor built in? or is it just a regular leather jacket?

My next suggestion would be some riding boots, or even work boots of some sort that let you hide the laces and cover your ankles. Be careful of laces, they get caught!

Have you taken the MSF course?

It has padding on the shoulders, sides, neck, and lower back, but nothing hard inside it. Boots are definitely next.

I took the STAR course awhile ago... Not sure what MSF is.

MSF = Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The STARS course here in Idaho is an MSF course. So yes. You're now officially cool.

Most of us here would agree, the MSF course is a MUST for any new riders; basically because we get tired of repeating the same thing over and over for new riders, and it helps overcome some initial fears to riding that every new rider has to get over.

Like how to stay away from Pvster. That's just a given.

I have a question. How hard is it to change my own oil? I mean, I do it on my car. It can't be more difficult than that, right?

Dang. Now why didn't you guys bring that up on my garage thread?

Emily, changing oil is a breeze. Check some gixer (ahem, gixxer) forums for an oil change thread.

Good luck getting through the "what oil should I use" threads!

And if you think the crowd here is rough, watch out for the Gixxer crowd! All balls, no brains. Yes, Whip, that means you.

Welcome Emily, and rest assured that the sudden burst of man-charm across the boards has nothing whatsoever to do with your gender.

It's true, I'd be foolish to try to argue, I would avoid Gixxr.com the squid smell is really strong there, I hang out with GSXR Forum, they seem to be pretty friendly and willing to help, especially chicks!....but I'm sure you could get all the help you need right here on WT
