Thumbs up Hello from Newfoundland, Canada

Hi guys and gals,

Just made a down payment on a new 2007 919 and I can't wait to take possession. First street bike for me even if it is a little intimidating. Just gazing out the window now at lots and lots of snow. Just a week ago we had 60 cm in 24 hrs...not exactly biking weather. Being located in Atlantic ocean has its disadvantages during the fall, winter and spring seasons I've signed up for the Safety Course in May and hopefully will have my license immediately after. In the meanwhile, best place for the bike is still in the shop.

Thanks for all the great comments/advice I've been reading; it certainly helped me make up my mind to purchase this great bike. I especially like the fact that with a few minor mods I can transform this weapon into a short distance tourer so my better half can enjoy the 919 as well.

After lurking in several forums for various bikes, I have to say that this forum has a great tone...lots of helpful people and no flaming. Just my

Anyway cheers to everyone and here's to keeping the rubber on the road and out of the ditch!

At this time of the year the only riding I can do is on my quad. Pictures of me ice-fishing and having a "boil-up". Obviously this is not in the community but just a few miles outside.

Relaxing though.

Cheers!

I felt the same way about my 9 when I first rode her. But it wears off quickly the more you ride. In my biased opinion, you picked the right bike!

And that flaming comment was just too funny. I can see that there are some threads you've yet to frequent.

I'd like to take a month vacation and take a ride through Canada. Looks like there is plenty of great roads and scenery up there.

Welcome to my world! It's quite cold here now but our summers are very beautiful with wonderful scenery and awesome twisty roads and an abundance of hills. Great province to visit and tour!

Fellow Newfie, sadly in B.C.

Scratch:

How ya gettin' on, by? I sure miss riding up and down Signal Hill at dawn (there's too many people at other times). And that run out to Cape Spear is pretty classic... come to think of it, there's a lot of good roads around the Avalon Peninsula. I left Newfoundland a few years ago (to get a job, like everyone else) but I will be back as soon as I can.

And the weather isn't that bad... sure, I was there the year we got 25 feet of snow (2002?), but some other winters are mostly rain - I rode in every calendar month of the year, a few times (even the time I had to dig my SOHC CB750 from under a 30-foot snowbank - it pressed the handlebars down hard enough to dent the tank, but it still started right away... well, after about 50 kicks...)

Stay safe, and watch out for all the road grit and crappy pavement... people from Plymouth Rock and Quebec City are largely ignorant of this, but the oldest street in North America is in St. John's (Water St.) and when the snow melts and the potholes appear, it looks like it.

Sigh. Now I'm just homesick.
