Hello from Michigan

Hello, J.R. here.

Although I'm a CBX and 1100F "guru", I decided to get a 919 because I've heard so many good things about them.

I sure I'll have questions in the future.

Happy to be here.

Welcome aboard, and we look forward to your initial impressions.

2
Do you still have at least one of each?
I am referring to the CBX (early models assumed) and the 1100F

No, I sold 2 CBXs (including the one in my avatar) and my 1100F recently. Currently building another CBX that should be completed this Summer. Here's a shot of the motor, mocking up carburetion:

Stock or "stockish" build?
How good to rough was the bike when you got it?
It will be a very distinctive ride when done, that's for sure.

Hello CBX-tras:

JR, why don't you show them a before/after photos of that red CBX in your avatar or the before/after photos of Ken's 1100F?

Then show them what you are doing to your new (to you) Hornet 919?

Full disclosure - he is my brother.

LOL - It's great to see brothers support each other's obsessions!

I think you'll both grow to appreciate the dependability of the 919's.

Welcome to the forum!

My next CBX will be similar to the red one but with many more performance upgrades, including Ducati SSSA suspension.

Here are some before and afters as requested:

What is that monster headlamp on the red CBX off of?!
It looks even bigger than the Bosch unit that was on the early/mid 70s Laverda 1000.

That headlamp was used on the ~1985 Suzuki GS1150e.

I use it on all of my builds. The bucket isn't available so, you find them on eBay from time to time. The lens/reflector and everything else is still currently available from Suzuki.

Budget about $350 for an entire assembly by the time you get everything together.

I'm really not a GoldWing guy but, this supercharged GL1000 that I built has won several awards before I sold it to the current owner. It's still the poster child on the FB page of the GL1000 Cafe Racers.

With the blower, it would launch like crazy.

Hello JR:

Back up on post #8, you showed a Blue 1100F that was restored to Maui Red.

What did you pay for the blue bike you started with and how long did it take to restore it?

Curious.

I paid $100 for that CB1100F sold it to my neighbor for $200 (doubled my money) and did the restoration in about 4 months.

He did the motor under my tutelage while I did everything else including disassembly, cleaning, prep for powder coating and spraying the colors.

This CBX was 90 days, start to finish:

Now that's what I call a novel build!

That 1100F looks a LOT like the 700S from the 80's.

I know because I still have two of them, I had to look real close.

What year was the 1100F made, and do you still have it?

Some bikes are damn hard to get rid of, even if you don't ride them anymore. My 700S hasn't been ridden since I got the 919.

Technically, I still own my 1100F but is scheduled to be gone tomorrow to the new owner.

I'm going to miss it, for sure.
