Hello From Boston, Massachusetts

I'm a new rider. I completed the MSF Rider Course in late April and purchased a BMW F800R the next week. This is my first motorcycling. I've been practiciing and learning (and practicing...) since.

I haven't been a complete beginner at something in a very long time. It's great to see progress andto know I still have years of learning and practice (plus enjoyable riding) ahead of me.

Cheers,

Greg

Welcome! Sweet bike!

Take your time, respect the power of the machine, and be wary out there. You'll be fine.

Thanks for the welcome messages! I live in Newton. I did some research and got some input from friends who ride BMWs, most of them 8-10 years old. Their bikes are still going strong. I feel very fortunate to be on this bike. I'm looking at a few Mass. Meetup Groups who ride on weekends.

I am taking it slow...thanks for the reinforcement. Just today a utility truck cruised through a red light long after his light turned red. He never slowed down. Sure, it was 6:30AM but there I was waiting to cross the intersection with a green light.

I didn't buy a motorcycle for speed - more for the experience of applying what I learn to and on the bike. I ride bicycles too (THEM I want to go fast on! Or faster, anyway.) I just got up to 70 MPH on the Mass Pike (Route 90) today to start becoming accustomed to highway speeds. That was at 6:35AM against traffic. I have to lean over to avoid getting knocked around. Learned I need to adjust my mirrors if I'm staying in that position for any duration.

Thanks all for the greetings here. The great support of fellow riders is still a mind blowing experience. Just this morning at a coffee shop someone walked over to me to talk bikes (his and mine.) It isn't like this very much in road cycling I've found or in many other aspects of life. Very cool - I will do the same.

Welcome and love the ride, Greg.

Remember this: Use 95% of all your faculties to stay alive on those busy Eastern Seaboard roads and the remainder 5% use to enjoy the ride. That is more than enough enjoyment.
