Greetings and salutations

Hi out there,
I've been lurking 'round here for a little while, doing research on the Honda 919 while I narrowed down my choice for a new bike. Great info 'round here!

I've been riding out here in CA for 2 years, and I'm soon to replace my trusty old Honda Nighthawk with a 919. I've also got a '98 VFR 800 in the stable for trackdays and long trips (I did 3,800 miles on it this summer, around CA, NV, UT, ID, CO, MT, and OR). I'll be out at Reno-Fernley raceway this Saturday for my second trackday, as well.

It'll be good to join you all and talk bikes.

Best,
Heidi in Oakland, CA

Welcome.

I may get stoned for saying this, but you may want to research the Street Triple. It's getting some serious marks.

I always figure that given the opportunity, the guilty will reveal themselves...

I would looooooove to have a Street Triple (drool, drool), and my research was encouraging, but I carry passengers (many of them larger than I at 5'6" and 150 lbs.) so frequently that it sort of ruled smaller bikes out. After my 2-up overnight trip a couple of weeks ago, I'm determined to get something that pulls harder than the poor overloaded Nighthawk!

Hey now ... leave our sticks out of it! Unless your referring to Bigdaa.

What's wrong with the VFR for 2-up and overnights? The Street Triple would be a great track day fun machine.

Err, hello Heidi. I'm bigdaa. I'm old but I'm very wise. Some other guys on this forum are rank(smelly) amatures. I'm the real deal even if my wife says otherwise. I live with a blood condition called R.B.C.L.L.L.M. or RBCL³M (Red Blood Cells Look Like Little Motorcycles). You've come to a wonderful place. Good point. Why not keep the VFR for 2-Up stints and get the "SPEED" triple - I take you guys are referring to the Triumph. You will love the triple especially if you riding placed like Skyline (HWY35) to like La Honda or Santa Cruz and stuff. Tons of torque, great and nimble handling and would be great on the track too... unless you want to step up to the 675. That would give you the full fairing.

Okay... all you Hornuts can stone me now.

That would be "STREET" Triple. It is the naked version of the Daytona. From what I've seen and read about it. It's suppose to be an excellent machine!

Ahhh yes. Basically, the Street is a slightly de-tuned 675 in naked form. Ohh... I like that - NAKED! Sporty? Kristen? Heidi? Care to demonstrate that ?!?!

Well, compared to our local Bay Area Riders Forum, y'all are pretty sweet, even in yr leg-humpage.

Just in case, tho, here's a picture of me from a coupla weekends ago

I did go ahead and pick up a 919, if only because I got it for less than half of what a Street Triple woulda run me.

The VFR has too rough a seating position and is too tight in the knees for my regular passenger. Standard is the way to go. I'm keeping it for trackdays and travel, though.

Here's a link to a trip report from my big travel earlier this summer:

Nemo,
I just read the entire trip report you posted on BARF. Awsome!
I used to call the Bay area home and worked at Laurence Berkeley Laboratory the time I was there '89 to '95.
I learned to ride my 400 Hawk up in the hills above Oakland before buying my '93 Nighthawk from Concord Motorsports.
My kids were little then and I bought an Isuzu Trooper, a tent trailer and vacationed at Lassen for two solid weeks one year. It was epic!
More vacation summers were spent in Shasta, Tahoe and I look back on those years glad that I didn't miss the opportunity to experience those places when I had the chance.
Thanks for takin' me back! I'm going to link your story to my daughter (now in college). She'll love it.

I plan to die young, as late as possible.
