Coming up on my second season with my 2007 919.
I absolutely love the bike. I remember in 2002 when I went to the motorcycle show in Minneapolis thinking, I WANT one of those. In fortunately I had just graduated college and couldt quite afford it so I went with a Honda Magna VF750. That too was a great bike. Great power out of the V-4 and fun, just not quite as nimble as i would have liked. This was my first bike. Having always wanted a bike since I was able to walk, I was ecstatic. Sold it two years later , bought another dream of mine, a dirtbike for the cabin. I picked up a kdx 220 for a good price and rode the hell out of it at my cabin. Unfortunately, after two years riding, apparantly only atvs are allowed in the ditches to get to the riding spot; I completely complied with the DNR and they let me off with a lesser fine (around $130) and didnt take the bike from me which they could have. I rode the bike back to the cabin and trailered it home with the help of my neighbor, not to be ridden again. I guess its my fault on not knowing the up-to-date Minnesota state regulations. Apparently riding a 2 wheel ohv is like deforestation
they said they tear up the land too much. Interesting concept. Anyway, I'm over it now.
Last spring, with gas prices unruly high, I sold my Acura TL type-S that I bought 3 years previous to save on loan payments and fuel, and picked up a new 919. I remember going through the process, getting loans, finding the bike, etc; couldnt have gone more fast. I was counting the hours until I drive up north to purchase my first NEW vehicle. Long story short, I am not dissapointed. I LOVE this bike. Sure I may have to drive a beat up 87' Chevy suburban I picked up on craigslist for $600 in winter, but its worth it. With the economy in the tank and feeling its effects, I'll gladly ride this great bike 6 months of the year, and spend the other 6 buying coolant, oil and transmission fluid with no car payment, and a small bike payment with a good credit union.
So thats my story, almost 4000 miles driven, and ready for spring!
I've been lurking in this forum for months now, and figure I'd better say hi.
Thanks for reading, and if anyone knows where on earth I can get some renthal ultra-lows in black, I will be forever indebted. I cant find them for the life of me in stock.
Take care everyone,
