A 599er tagging along for the ride

I hope you don't mind a 599 rider jumping out to say hey. I've peeked around a few times in the past but thought I'd go ahead and step out into the light like the lil lady from Poltergeist says.

Welcome.

When I was shopping for a street bike, I almost went with the 599.
The carburation was the deal breaker.

Come on, Honda, get with the program...

There, I feel better now.

Had I not been in such a rush to buy at the time, I might have waited on a 919 myself for that reason. But since it's my first bike, it was cool.

Maybe you can do a little review of the 599 for us. You know, how you feel about it, what Honda could have done different, and stuff like that.

You don't know how close I was to buying that bike.

Don't know if you do any canyon carving, but elevation would be my mine concern. We do group rides to Mt. Baldy, close to 5000 feet I believe.

Interestingly enough I just read your posts about that and responded right before getting to this one. So far, I've had no problems with so cal elevations. I haven't been up to the top of Baldy (only to that ski restaurant up there, then back down) but I've been past the 6000 ft mark on Angeles Crest countless times. Wait, I think it actually gets to 7K up there if I'm correct. But yeah, no problems at all with elevation.

I'd give a review, but since this is the only bike I've ever really known (outside of some 3 wheelers when I was a wee lad, and the 250s in my refresher course), I don't really have anything to compare it to. I have spent a few minutes on friends' bikes from time to time, but not really long enough to say much... yet. Perhaps I have found a reason to spend more time on another bike. Swinging time. Oh yeah!

My 1st Gen SV650 is carb'd and I didn't have any elevation issues up on ACH either. I have however, had general carb problems that arise from a nearly 10 yr old carb'd bike. Pain in the butt.

Aside from the aforementioned general problems and considering how we live in SoCal where 45 degrees is considered cold, starting up in the morning hasn't been much of an issue with the cold blooded SV.

Still, I'd prefer the EFI of my 919 anyday.

Whats up DJ!! Another 599!! We almost have a squad. This place is a close second in coolness to our beloved 599 forum. But whereas the 919 is the minority on our board, here we are the tolerated foreingner. Not really, more like the pesky little sibling. lol.
