919 Origin?

I just bought my new '07 919 about 3 to 4 weeks ago< havn't put many niles on it yet because of mid-atlantic weather. (just over 100miles total today) Anyway, I dedcided to stop by the Honda dealer just to say, Hey! I met a sales guy who also rides a 919 and he told me the 919 was built in Italy, assembled by Duccatti. Is that the case?

not quite... the 919 is based off the honda 929, with a detuned but more torquey engine, slightly differnt frame and suspension and most importantly is naked.

Engine is based on the CBR900RR engine, but detuned. The sales man is full of it and himself.

Umm, ya..........

Here is the real story.

The bike was originally a Hornet 250 in the Japanese domestic market. That bike then morphed into the Hornet 600 with a CBR 600 F3 based motor. That bike morphed into the Hornet 900 (919 in the states) with a 1996 CBR 900RR motor (thats the 9-1-9 one which is the original 893cc 900RR motor with a 1 mm overbore, not the 9-2-9 one, which is a completely different engine) and significantly different head.

The frame is not "slightly different" than a 929, in fact, its not even the same element on the periodic table. The frames have nothing in common other than they are made by Honda & welded together. The 919 is originally based on a 250cc bike.

He was speaking of the CB1000R, which is Italian by nature.
He just didn't know it.

There is a hint of Italian in the 599 as well.

The 919 is Baba-san all the way.

Could be wrong but I thought the 919cc cbr engine was used in 98&99 cbr900 (USA). The '00&'01 929 is a different engine also having the swingarm mounted directly to the engine cases.
