Midwest Ride Planning

Okay, so we quit jacking up the other thread, post up ideas and such here for a Midwest ride/get together/BBQ whatever:

If we're going to do it this year we better get a move on. We can also discuss next year planning.

Is there any way we can post all potential attendees on a map and determine a central location from that? Thanks for starting this thread it will be great to meet all of you.

I don't know of any online map programs that allow multiple people to put points on the same map. Google maps allows you to create a map consisting of just points, but it just makes a static map, so anytime it gets changed, we'd have to update the link. I can volunteer to do this for people. If you want to be on this map, either reply here (with city) or PM me. I'll get the map up once I've got several people, then update it as appropriate.

(When I create it, it will go in the above placeholder)

September is pretty much out for me, and October is kind of filling up. I'd almost vote for planning something in the spring so we can get more people to make plans to attend, and maybe even get a crazy east coaster or two out

Fehren would probably come down from Ohio...that boy loves his rides...

That being said, if we did plan something for October, I could probably make it, if we decided soon.

Thanks for the help with the map. We should be able to break down a good locale pretty quickly with your assistance. Now is the time to chime in if this is going to happen, Midwest Twisters!

I know there's another Indpls area member with a 919, met him at the Loop for Life charity ride in early August. Cool guy but can't remember his name, he was working with the Steel Horse TV show. Speak up fellow Hoosiers!

I agree that it might be tough to get anything together this fall, other than maybe a short weekend ride. I'll be glad to play local host for next fall's MotoGP in Indy, would also be happy to ride a few miles to a spring get together.

And I vote for a meet with great roads. Northern KY/Southeast Ohio have some great ones. Some remind me of the area around the Gap.

Indy is barren of good twisties..unless you go to Putnam Park....

I would agree with Louisville also or the Evansville area.

I'm booked up pretty solid until after December I can work it into my schedule for next spring though.

After many years and many dreams I have realized my goal of riding in all 50 states!

So spring it is? For the northerners they may need to make it a little later in the year so the weather can warm up some.

Speak up people up north. What month is good? May/June? You guys out of the deepfreeze by then?

After that we can work out location. I've got plenty of options here if you guys wanted to motel/camp/etc. I can handle quite a few. Or we can do Indy.

MotoGP is out for me. Like I said in the other thread, I'll be motorhoming it there.

P.S. If the weather holds out and some of you want to get together for a day ride holler out. I'm game. I just don't know the roads in central or southern Indiana that well.

I don't even know what we're doing or when we're doing it, but I'm getting excited!

Does Memorial Day, '08 work for anyone? Nice 3-day weekend, eh? eh? Can figure out the place later?

I'll plan on Memorial Day. The Indy 500 could make things a little "crowded" up that way though.

Ang and I already do a Memorial Day ride every year. It is possible that the trip will be in KY already. Not our turn to plan.

Jim,

We may plan a day ride still this month. I will let you know. How far are you from Xenia or even Peebles, OH?

Nate,

I'm 147 miles to Xenia. I won't even have to stop for gas.

Give me two hours and I'll be there tonight.

Since this wasn't originally my idea I don't want to "step on anybody's toes." If we want to get together further North, South, East or West I'm good for it. For those of you who know me miles on a motorcycle don't bother me.

Having said that, I'll offer up as host if we do Kentucky. I can put you in the twisties for 2-8 hours. We can hub out of my place if you like. The wifey's already said she's good with it. You can camp at my place or there's motels close by. We can do some food/beverages, etc. Just offering.

I live in Norman, IN. Anybody that can find that wins a beer... Actually I am about 15 miles east of Bedford, IN.

I could do a ride this year or at any time next spring. I will also be at the MotoGP in Indy next summer.

I've got a GPS, I found it. I like Miller Lite.

We're practically neighbors. We should hook up one weekend and ride some. I'm free this weekend, got something I have to do next Saturday. You know any good roads out your way?

Chicago is in...

I'm up for a ride this year and/or next. Let me know if you guys figure out a location for the ride. I'm trying to convince a riding buddy NOT to sell his S3! A good trip might help!

We rode out to Detroit from Chicago and it rained all day all the way back 7+ hours of riding. He put his bike up for sale the next day

I would say that a Memorial Day get together sounds like fun, but that would be a bad time to come to Indy unless you want to go to the race. It's a zoo here that weekend and I usually leave town just to get away from it all.

Not opposed to a Kentucky gathering, beautiful country down there, although it might be a bit far for some of our more northern members. Then again, HondaJim is offering to host and the rumor is he likes BBQ! My only concern would be the weather that time of year, although maybe it only rains in Indianapolis on Memorial Day.

I've got some unfinished business in Denver.

Keep tossing ideas out everybody. After we get a few maybe we can set up a poll and see what rises to the top. I'd like to do whatever makes it easiest on everyone so we can get a good showing and ride some good roads.

If I get some time tonight I'll take everybody who has responded on the thread and put them into Mapsource and post a cut of it. Might help will the "big picture." We've got plenty of time to figure this out.

Crestwood, KY. About 5 miles from LaGrange Kentucky. Lagrange is on I-71 about 25 miles north of Louisvlle heading toward Cincinnati.

That area looks to have some good riding potential. I have been in the area before for work and commented to myself that I should have put the bike in the truck.

Let's have it in Northern Canada so that no one gets an easy ride to the gig.

To me, we can do it anytime you want. Even in January or Feb. As long as it's at my house.
