It's beside Texas.

There's nothing there.

They have stupid speed limits. Blacktop two lane roads with no one in sight for miles, straight and flat, and a 45 MPH speed limit. And it is enforced.

It's not a "New" as the name may lead you to believe.
As I hear it...It's been there for quite some time now.
Unless it's under "new" ownership. then it might be a grand re-opening.

I use this site to scout out areas I've never been before:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/

Just plug in the name of the city you're going to and you should find out all you need, including which areas to avoid.

While my daughter still can be dragged along, we are on the "See the USA" summer series.
The last few years we have done South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana,Florida, South Carolina and parts of Colorado and Arizona.

I voted for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this year but was outvoted for either Arizona or New Mexico.

Even if you are not sking, the Taos area is really beautiful. It's an arsty fartsy town with a lot of neo hippies and artists living there.

So, it sounds like a place Bigdaa would hang out?

Kristen, have you done the history tour? When my girls get a bit older, I was planning on doing the "history tour"; Libery Bell, Mt. Rushmore, etc.

Mt.Rushmore and the Black Hills are absolutely fantastic!
Way better than you can even imagine. They easily top Yellowstone.

Las Cruces is a cool spot for a quickie. It's a college town. See the Organ Mtns. Then go to Trinity test site, but wear a radioactive-repellent suit! I bet all the cool spots are in the northern half of the state, though. Like Taos and Santa Fe... But those wide open spaces are pretty cool.

Spoiler:

Kristen, you go yet? You're really doing this over the UP? UP MUCH prettier, but then again, I live in the desert setting. I was going to throw in a plug for Albuquerque by UNM - cool little main drag and friendly (and odd people). We just did a trip there and enjoyed the NM landscape in general.
