*Event Cancelled* Memorial Day Ride

EDIT: This event is cancelled.

The original thread is closed. It can be found here for planning.
https://www.wristtwisters.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=8348

I know weather can have an impact at the last minute. For planning purposes can I get an in/not in so I can start some planning myself. Respond to this thread and I'll update this first post with who's committed.

Any other info would help. When you're arriving, motel or camping, etc.

Sorry dudes. Got no money this year. I'm out. I hope there's enough turnout to make it an annual thing though.

You're going to be really late.

Memorial Day weekend is May 24th (Saturday) to May 26th (Monday). The plan is to have a short ride and dinner Saturday evening if there is anyone interested. Sunday will be the main ride day and drinks/food that evening.

We're in, have been out of town, not great internet options in my brother's hunting lodge in Iowa.

We'll plan to arrive Saturday afternoon, probably leave Monday morning. Anyone still interested in hooking up in Indianapolis for the ride down?

In. Well, like 90% in. I gotta check with a friend in Louisville to see if he's around for me to crash at his house. Count me in, and I'll update later as a -1 if it ends up that I can't get some bloke to watch the mutts or something...

Pretty excited!!

I'm planning on leaving Chi-town Sat. morning and could meet you anywhere near the Speedway. I'm familiar with the neighborhood west of Georgetown by the Coca-Cola plant.
Hoping others from this way will chime in.

Just wanted to post this from the other thread, so that the specifics can be known without digging through several pages from that thread.

Saturday May 24th 2008
If most people ride into my area Saturday then we could do a short ride Saturday afternoon for anybody here. I've got a nice route that's about 1.5 to 2 hours of twisties. Have some dinner someplace in Lagrange or Louisville Saturday night.

Sunday May 25th 2008 - The Ride
Leave from my house and can also plan a meeting place for people who may come in Sunday morning. Departure would probably need to be mid-morning. I've got a 5-7 hour loop (I can make it 5 or 7, based on if you're a pou-c)that heads east of here through some really nice roads. We can meet back at my place and have some food and drinks. Bonfire, lies, etc.

Monday May 26th 2008
Breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Lagrange. Bye. For anybody riding in I would probably head up north a ways with you guys and then turn around and head back. Not a lot of good routes other than slab heading that way.

Facilities:
I've got plenty of room for motorcycles, vehicles and vehicles pulling trailers.

There's also plenty of room if you want to pitch a tent. I've got a three man tent I could throw up also. I've got three full baths so you can grab a shower here if you like, shower with your special buddy at his hotel room, or I can spray you with the hose.

There's a few motels about 4 miles from here in Lagrange Kentucky. I don't know much about them because I sleep at home. Here's a page with some of them listed. I usually stay at Holiday Inn Express when I bike travel and like them, but I can check any of them out if you need me to:
http://hotel-guides.us/kentucky/la-g...ky-hotels.html

One thing to note, the county I live in is dry, meaning no alcohol sales. They do sell "by the drink" at restaurants. Jefferson County (Louisville) is close by if you want to stay there and have a bar in a hotel. Let me know if you want some info. There's a beer/liquor store about 10 miles from my house.

As with any planned event weather could play havoc on the whole thing, but that's to be dealt with later.

I've got the routes on GPS so I can post a file if you want.

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

That's cool, westside is not far from our house, can meet out there or give easy directions to our place coming from Chicago.

Haven't gotten our lodging plans in place yet, better get in gear on that. Still torn about staying at HJ's place or in town at a hotel, worried about beer with motorcycles being our only means of transport, but we'll figure it out.

So do we only have like 5 definites?

So far. Don't know what happened to all the people in the original thread. I think there were about 20 or so in that one.

If you're in and not on the list post up! Don't make the midwest look lame.

So, HondaJim ... what's the make up of bikes? I'm thinking about doing an Iron Butt next week with one of the bikes. It's only 1108 miles, but I'll thinking about riding the XX or maybe the H-D from MA to IN next week. If it happens, I'll at least have a ride out in the midwest.

9ers so far. There's a local group of sportbikes I ride with but I haven't invited any of them. Be glad to have you if you can make it.

Is this the Ironbutt we were going to do last year?

No ...

I just need to ride ... it's been way too long, I mean a real long time! Got the XX on trickle charge right now. Going to try and spend some time working on bikes this weekend.

Since, I want to have a bike in the midwest ... what better way than ride it out. Since it's over 1000 miles, why not make it an Iron Butt? Sorry, didn't mean to divert thread.

I'm still up for this, got the time off & hotel reservations. Hopefully some others from the WI, Northern IL area will go. I hope it's not a lonely ride down. At least I can stop in Indy and hook up with sbeau1960.

So...5 person get together, plus HJ? What do you think guys?

Hoping the weather is decent, that could be the final blow. We probably wouldn't ride two hours in rain, but don't mean to be negative. Here's hoping for bright sunny skies!

I'll do whatever you guys want to do. I get to ride these roads all the time, and I'll be riding that weekend if it's nice anyway.

There were about 20 people on the original thread who expressed interest and now 5 who are willing to commit.

If you want to try and plan something later in the year that's okay too. I'll be gone the first or second week of August though.

Save your money for the gas...

Don't mind me. I'm just a little bummed. I was really looking forward to meeting some more WT folks, and I owe Scott and Gin some adult beverages... I know it can be a pain to plan around these things, and most everyone here has a family and other obligations, too. Plus, the cost of gas affects these little jaunts--not on the bike, obviously, but with the cages that we use on a daily basis, not to mention time missed at work equals no paycheck for some. The list goes on...

Oh well. That just makes the times that it does work out that much better, knowing that it isn't an easy task lining up a time when people from all over the place can get together and have good times on two wheels.

Either way, I ain't working, and I can cancel the reservations if more interest does not drum up in the next day or so.

Hmm...Guess we should make a decision soon. I was about to schedule my dogs for the kennel, and get a hotel. Still sounds like fun, but it would be sweet if more WTers could make it.

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

I'm really bummed I can't make it, but I'm working 6 days a week and I'm still almost a month behind where I should be at work we have so many orders. (which is a really good problem to have at this point in time) but with that I can't take the vacation time I want to make a trip like this. We finally got a new guy hired this week so hopefully later this summer things will ease up on me a bit at work. Also trying to get my house ready to sell, or should I just say put on the market, so I can buy a house in the city I work in. Just to much to do right now and not enough time to do it. a reschedule for later in the year would allow me a better chance to make it but who knows what will happen so don't use that to make your decision about rescheduling it. To much is up in the air for me this year to be 100% of scheduling anything. But obviously let the rest of us know if you do.

This event is officially cancelled. Plug pulled.

Only five out of the original people who wanted this ride committed to it. It's not worth the trouble of trying to put something together for five people, especially with some of them coming from a major distance away.

Maybe another time.

Sorry to hear. I was working my tail off to get caught up to make it down. Hopefully we can get together some time soon. Thank you for the effort Jim.
