BMW test drive

Just got an invite to my local BMW cyclery's open house where they'll be offering test drives of the F800S and F800ST this Saturday. Gonna be sweet!

I took one for a ride this year too. Nice ride. Looking forward to hearing your impressions.

I enjoy BMWs efforts to try to get new customers. Last year I got invited to a BMW auto event where they let you drive an Infinity G35, Audi A4, and the BMW 330 on an autocross track. Not only did they let you drive as hard as you could, they showed you how to do it, then pushed you to drive harder. It was a blast. After that, they let you drive basically any series of car they sell, except the M series. I drove Z4s, 3s, 5's, Xs, and 6s. I didn't get to drive the 7 series because some a-hole that drove it before me slid it sideways into a curb and broke the axle.

Unfortunately, there's no real good roads around the dealership, and I'm guessing they don't give you a real long time, but it will be fun anyway.

Steal me a R1200GS while you're there.

'k. I'm sure they'll just write it off. They probably won't even care, is my guess.

Damnit ! I was sooo looking at one of those while shopping for a new bike. This is when I was ignored by the dealer. If they hadn't ignored me and told me when they were expecting these models, I would have waited. Got to sit on them at the cycle show last year. Great ergos. Too bad.

That sucks. I've always had great experiences at luxury dealers. They always seem more willing to cater to you. I've gotten snubbed at plenty of economy dealers, even going as far as "taking me for a test ride" instead of letting me test drive. My experience is that if you at least look like a decent member of society, that they'll let you get away with a lot. I've test driven a lot of luxury cars, most of the time telling them straight up that I'm not yet in the market, but just showing interest. More often than not, they just hand me the keys and let me take her out, they don't even ride with me. This included my best test drive of all time, the Porsche Cayenne...

You know, there is a reason that they call BMW riders BOBs (bastard on a BMW). They are different from the rest of us. I can say this because I am married to one. People that own 919s don't own BMWs. We just coexist.

Edited to say that this is not always a bad thing.
Opposites attract.
I've been married 20 years to a BOB.

Do I become a BOB just by test driving one? I hope not!

This doesn't surprise me. On one of my lone rides out to Borrego Springs I was at the gas station getting gas and something to drink. I was just sitting on a wall when a group of about 15 BMW riders pulled in to the station. Not one of them acknowledged I was even there and I was only 10ft away. No wave, head nod, "what's up" or anything. Man was that group stuck up. Hope they aren't all like that.
