New Street 500 and 750 may be good starters when they come out this spring.

Cheaper and more common would be import cruisers. If it's a starter, chances are you'll upgrade in a year or two. Then buy a Harley of your choice, this way you can form an opinion if the Japanese cruisers have a one up on everything besides heritage.
