WHY does this happen?

Dammit, Thank God It happened a week from Race day, otherwise... well, Pissed off would not be the chosen word to use here.

So, I decided that I had behaved good all last year and promised to also do good this year so, the power's that be looked upon my skinny a$$ and signed me up for High-Resolution Live Video Stream from MotoGP.com YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAA!!!

All is well, they took my money, I go to the site, put it my login name, password and I am "ALL IN" . Decide to preview some of the clips before hand to be ready and prepared for Sunday and this happens (see image below)

I can watch anything on Real Player but I CAN NOT, for the life of me, make the Windows Media Player play anthing on that site (and now that I think about it, in any other site that has live streams in wmv)... why is that?

I am sure that is has to do with some setting I have unclicked or clicked somewhere because of a security I onced told it I wanted or it decide I need it w/o my knowledge or consent so... HOW IN THE HELL DO I MAKE IT GO AWAY (short of installing a fresh copy of Windows XP ???

Microsuck has a knowledge base article somewhere about restoring or rebuilding your licenses in DRM. If I can find it, I'll post it. Otherwise, see if you can search for it on Microsoft's home page.

I'm all out of lotion and I have a blister, so the break might do me good.

It couldn't just be that Real Player is now the default program for wmv? If media player isn't the default, it can be difficult to make it open the media file...
You may be able to go into Media Player-Options-File Types and select wmv. This should make Media Player the default program again.

In fact, here are the settings on my machine....
Network tab - all of the protocols are selected (don't select any ports).
General tab - download codecs automatically
Devices tab - Advanced button - allow video files to convert in the background (no others selected)
Performance tab - Detect connection speed; default buffering; full acceleration

I can't guarantee that it will help but you never know...

You might also try (from within IE) Tools-Internet Options/advanced tab you can select all items under the Multimedia section except: show image download placeholders.

Of course the one for playing videos in web pages is optional - do you want a seperate window for the video or do you want it in the embedded window of the web page?

I hope some of this helps....

Got it to work... answer is ilogical but we're talking about a microsoft product so... we can't excpect nothing less.

I install WMP11 when I did my new PC (by the time I realized what I had done, it was to late) and since I don't listen to music that much I left it and I just use VLC to listen to some tunes.

Well, I went back to microsoft, downloaded WMP11 again and re-installed it, went back to MotoGP.com and Presto!!! problem solved... yes, tell me if that makes sense what-so-ever for you!

Makes perfect sense when you consider that the best way to resolve 90% of Windows issues is a reboot...

MS troubleshooting 101:

1. Reboot
2. Reinstall
3. Start at #1 and repeat as necessary....

Microshaft has never been able to handle video... Their Windows Media has a scroll bar, yet you can nit scroll through the video. It has a forward and reverse button, they are just there for decoration...
