Track Days in NJ area

So for those who do track days and live in the NJ area, I have a question. Where do you go? VRI any other places in the area?

team promo !! lol play by the rules or else

lots of folks run days at VIR, NESBA NYSBC Schools, not to mention all the race orgs

beaverun is about 6 hrs, vir 9 hrs, carolinamotorsportspark ..waay too many hours, several tracks in 'how u doin, eh?' territory, pocono is the place to setup your suspension, it gets a workout, loudon if u dare...not to mention, the NEW TRACK IN JERSEY !!! BOOOOYAAAH !!! Millville

i'll dig up the links

there are a few trackwhore clubs in north jersey, good folks mostly.... GSSC and NYSBC, checkout cycleforums.com to get there...

there are always plenty of people from the area headed south, north west on any given track weekend...been missin it, seriously missin it this last yr

http://www.beaverun.com/
http://www.carolinamotorsportspark.com/index.shtml
http://www.virclub.com/vir/

project919.com list of track resources

SportbikeTrackTime runs days at Beaverun, it's close, small, easy and a nice warm up for longer, higher speed tracks

West Virginia Summit, Jefferson is also about 6 hours

Team Pro Motion sets up an air fence which is one of the things i really like

there are a number of folks on here that are instructors for the various orgs, it helps to know someone when first heading, makes life easier should you encounter a little over-enthusiastic guidance

oh yeah, and gogoracers...small groups

If you come to VIR, let me know. I live 30 minutes South and I've run there quite a few times.

don't sweat it...they need to make their bread & butter...that kind of membership wouldn't be in play unless u got very serious and had plenty of spare time and $

a number of the track clubs would sign up dates and that'd be the way to go...you know, unless a bunch of folks wanted to go in on a garage and run all kinds of stuff there every possible weekend

i don't know about other clubs but the dates fill up fast at teampromotion. I tried a few times but it's difficult for me to plan that far ahead. They also have bikes you can use, R6's and such.
I'd really like to get in a few track days for fun & learning but haven't gotten there yet. If you're gonna try it and want any company lemme know.

Try NESBA, a very well run and organized group. They are very strict about their passing rules which helps quite a bit for the beginnr groups. It can be frustrating in the Int. group, but its not unbearable.

You got it GPZturbo when I get signed up for one, my guess would be next season because I want to get a trailer to bring the bike to the track " the old rule don't ride to the track what you ride on it". Plus I've been looking for either a used cbr 600 or gsxr 600 to use as a track bike. Then i'll go to VRI to smoke Ridgerunner

Let me know where this mysterious VRI is and we'll meet for a challenge. If, however; you would like to smoke me at VIR, just let me know the dates you're coming down. I'll show you around the area.

oh sheesh, and i might be sellin my used gsxr 600 (2001) w/ full yosh system, yosh box, triple clicker out back, trax forks, sharks body work, 520 geared for short track right now...

NESBA is cool, they all have pretty strict rules about passing in begginers group, intermediate can be a pain cause the corners stack up...best deal is to lay back, see how things run and then talk to an instructor after almost every session, it's worth it

there might still be time to do a vir thing this year for the highly motivated, i've got some tpm credit layin around, have an open trailer

this just in...
TurboWife does not work the wknd of the 20th which means I can play.

other things to consider though...
I'm not (yet) a Nesba member. AND we don't know if they have any openings.
I AM a teampromotion member and have to go fix a dvr for one of their instructors. I'll check their schedule too.
I'm not opposed to quick-joining another club if they have openings.
I also have to check the rules regarding bike prep - can anybody give me the Cliffsnotes version? Or if they also have bikes available like teampromo, I might go that route for now . I've got suit/boots/gloves so I'm good there.

Just got off the phone with Mark from Nesba. He said there's still plenty of spots left for 10/20 Patriot course. You must use your own bike, take off the mirrors, tape all the lenses.
Click "Create an Account" from their site. Join the club & sign up for the track day all in one swoop. Bada Bing!
Tech inspection from 0700-0800. Beginners' meeting at 0815.

Mapquest shows it as being 7 hrs from here (08057) which means it's really 8.

Whaddya think?

I would suggest the Inn at the track, very nice accomodations with a stellar view of turns 4-6 on the North course. Book early if there are any other events going on that weekend. If not, you will have to go to Danville, VA which is about 15-20 minutes West. If I was in town, I could have put someone up at my house. Maybe next time.

I'm not much of a story teller but here goes. The track day was at VIR Patriot which is a 1.1 mile track a tight little track with 2 short straits and a couple nice turns, so the 9er's could keep up with the sports bikes no problem. With some scraping of hard parts we were right with them in the turns. Their were a couple guys out there on track bikes that we could not keep up with on the straits and turns but for the most part we past more than we got past. We ended up parked next to a 63 years young DR who had a SV650 track bike and could ride the wheels off it, very nice man glad to have meet him. Parked on the other side of us was a younger guy with a 929 who was one of the few we could not keep up with he's been doing track days for a couple years now. So onto our riding we started out opposites I started out hanging off the bike to much around turns and found that slowed me down and GPZ not enough, as the day went on we both made some adjustments and started riding faster right up till my right foot peg dug in and almost high sided me after that I cooled off a little and had to get my focus back. I only went off roading once on a warm-up lap taking a right turn onto the start finish I was looking behind me for some reason not a good ideal. I didn't go down and was able to ride it through the grass and back on the track but learned a valuable lessen even on slow laps pay attention to what your doing.
I think GPZ put his back wheel in the dirt once at a little higher speed but saved it nicely. All in all it was a great time had a lot of fun and learned a lot and got to hang out with a great guy " GPZTurbo" so if you want to meet some one and talk about turbos GPZ is your guy. I think we are both looking forward to doing more track days come next year, I hope at a closer track like Pocono.

No kidding, what a blast!
The weather was just perfect. The nice Dr.'s trailer provided for some nice shade and there was a constant breeze all day. Jlux was right, that guy was among the fastest of the beginner group in his 2nd or 3rd year (he couldn't remember!) . The guy on our other side was a US Marine on a 929. Only his third track day but the 2nd one after his Keith Code class which he spoke highly of. He too was among the fastest of our group.
We rode three sessions before lunch, four after and on a track that short it was plenty of laps. A little intimidated my first time there, I started out slow getting a feel for things. The first session seemed to finish quickly.
By the third session I was screaming around the track keeping the revs high through every turn trying not to let the more powerful bikes in my skill range get too far ahead. If they're a better rider than me, that's okay but I won't let them outpower my 919 on that track. During that time one of the Control Riders motioned me into the pits where his constructive criticism made the rest of my day that much better. I was riding great lines according to him but scraping way too much shiit on the road due to not hanging off enough. A few laps practicing his advice and I was getting around a lot quicker with much less drama. Somewhere along the way I realized I was using consistant gear selection & braking points all around which I forgot to practice so was happy it happened on its own.
Last lap of the last session I was tearing it up. I've hit everything perfectly so far and am coming out of a right turn at the top of the hill chasing a control rider on his motard. Just before the end of the turn while still leaned over I nail the throttle as hard as I can. Maybe too hard. The back tire breaks loose and about scares the crap out of me. Letting up on the gas to maintain control, the bike straightens up and I coast off the edge of the pavement for a few meters then back on. The Marine whizzes by. Damn.
By the end of the day I really thought we were both doing quite well. I know better than to call us fast, but we were a little quicker than most of the beginner group (all on sportbikes) which was cool for our first day at a track.
Travel to and fro was uneventful. Rained a little on the way and stupid gps sent us on some illogical routes but arrived just fine.
Motel was next to a small plaza which had a decent Italian restaurant. Neither of us thought any good Italian food could be had in the south. haha
Thinking about Spring, a track bike, and stickier tires. Maybe, maybe not.
